Care for a fun story about bbq?

In the late 50's / early 60's my dad worked for a bbq place in Bossier City, LA. They had a special of 10 bbq sandwiches for $1. My dad told me that the bbq was only oatmeal with bbq sauce.

I always laughed at that idea until I worked for a mexican fast food place who put a "gallon" of oatmeal into 10 pounds of beef for their tacos.

I grew up in Portland in the 70s and 80s and Mac's a staple. Tasty. Every sunday would drive over with my dad for some brisket po boy. Mmmmmmmmmm

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

We are rounding out many of the Texas top 50 right now. The best I have had didn't make the list because they are brand new. Its a new place in Corsicana, I think it's called Clydes.

As far as places you have heard about: Mac's tops the list. Way better than any one of the places listed here so far. And I have eaten at them all.

This is probably apples and oranges, but has anyone tried the legendary beef rib at Black's in Lockhart? It comes attached to a huge chunk of beef--what we would call "prime rib" or "ribeye," I would suppose. I doubt anyone who weighs under 300 lbs could handle more than one. It tastes like prime grade beef to me, and raises the bar to a new level. Only thing, it's way too expensive for ordinary fare.

That is about all I get there now, poboy, sliced beef and sausage, with extra of the black stuff. It is probably one of my favorite meals in town.

The son's and brother-in-laws own the Mac's now. And they all do it a little different, I like the brisket in gregory, and the ribs in Rockport. The "fore" in corpus uses oak instead of mesquite. But the last 2 times I was over there, they had hotlamp burn on their meat. So it wasn't any good.

Also, I haven't been to the original coopers in years, but I REALLY REALLY liked them. But i went to the one in New Braunfels the meat was cooked well, just they must have just spilled the pepper on the meat, had to take a knife out and scrape it off...

You know what used to be a good BBQ place, was Joe Cotton.

I go to the Cooper's in New Braunfels from time to time. The pork tenderloin is so good I've never tried anything else. I can't tell the difference from the original establishment in Llano. Always juicy and tender. It didn't seem over seasoned to me. Their holiday hams are also first rate. I understand they have a meat packing operation near Llano somewhere.

The last time I stopped by the Luling City Market, there were about a hundred people lined up waiting to get to the counter. Probably had something to do with the Saturday outdoor market.

All the hate on Rudys is because it's a chain. I've been to the majority of the BBQ hotspots and I think it holds it's own. I'm not saying it's the best, but it's pretty damn good and like a previous poster mentioned their breakfast is a thing of beauty.

I won't say the "best in Fort Worth" because I have not been to every bbq place in Fort Worth, but based on my experience, it is the best tasting bbq. An added plus is "super friendly people".

Try it out! See for yourself.

Spring Creek comes in a close second.

I eat there abour twice a month since I work right down the road, they are decent, not the best in Ft. Worth though

Red River makes some dang fine BBQ and the stuffed baked potatoes are amazingly HUGE!

The best BBQ in Texas in Green Mesquite in Austin, which would rank it about #138 in North Carolina.
