Was able to work the shoreline casting fishing flies with the Tenkara Rod. Caught a number of fish within 20' from the bank. Even managed another Shellcracker! This one went 8" in size and struck a Yellow Grasshopper. Today's Video.

Nice, another productive day there fhng84. Keep it up! I'm still waiting for my creek to clear up enough to give my new tenkara stick a fling. Can't wait to catch my first trout with that long stick. Meanwhile, tied a few more flies for some bream and trout. Damsel nymph pattern. Lead wrap inside will bring this fly down.

More fun this evening,... caught a number of fish with the largest coming in at ~14" in size. Was a Bass that took an Olive Crawdad less than 10' from the bank! Really liking the ability to work the shallows with short and accurate casts. Today's Video

Caught more fish today Tenkara Fishing. But, lost the Olive Crawdad. Have to tie more. Had more hits from Bass using it compared to the Damsel Fly. Today's Video

Great to hear Trout Bum! Looking forward to reports. Went out again this evening and worked the weedline near shore. More Bass and Bluegill. Largest was a 13.5" Bass caught on an Olive Crawdad. Seem to get better hooksets when the hookbend is pointing upward like a Clouser Minnow. Today's Video.

Did some Tenkara Fishing despite windy conditions. Caught 7 Bass and 1 Bluegill! Similar to flyfishing in windy conditions, found that it was best to have the wind coming from behind. Today's Video.

well, today myself and ultra light liner guru kee branch, alias les jackson, went out to our favorite little creek to try out the tenkara rod. he was using a zero weight rod, and me the tenkara. once i was rigged up, i went to work. took a little time to get used to it. but once i got the roll cast down, and adjusted the amount of line i wanted, it was pretty cool. tough when you miss setting the hook, cause the line ends up in the trees. so i started just letting the fish take it all the way, and i would simply lift up. if they got off, they got off. a lot better than trying to get the set-up out of the trees. i was using the 11 foot rod, with the lightest of the level lines, which basically was monafilament line. might try the furled line next time out. i bet it roll casts better, but not as subtle when it comes to the presentation. anyway, caught about 15 little creek fish. no bigguns, nor bass, but a good first time out. i can see the advantages of the sling shot cast, and being able to fish in tight situations. i also like how light the set up was, so it was easy to high stock. pics of the day: kee branch with his zero weight tenkara fish pics and rodics

Great pics and report Trout Bum. Have the same issue with missed strikes. Regardless, still liking this method and keeping one ready to go in the car!

Tenkara Yuku has some great tips. It's where I got the line holder idea that is made from a swimming pool noodle. FYI: Have been working the shallows with good results. Posted another video clip on the Web Blog - Video Clip, with the largest fish, a bass, going about 14"-15" in length! Fun stuff!

More fishing with the Tenkara Rod.... No Bruisers but was not a bad trip given the short time alloted to fish. Only had 30" before it was time to leave.

Been a while... decided to flex the Tenkara Rod and work the shallows. Caught a number of fish; lost a nice Catfish though using an Olive Damsel Fly. Today's Pictures.

Well since this thread has been popping up so often I figured I'd give this a try. I'm as skeptical as any about this goofy looking Asian made fishing pole, but I'll give it a fair shake and report back.
I ordered the 11' Caddis from Fountainhead so if it really is a joke, I wont be out that much money.
I have a few hike-to spots deep in the woods that hold palm sized bream and bass. It might be childs play, but the scenery is nice and the fish are fun to catch, but my 3 wt is just too big for them.
