Ren I think you are right. I thought about what you are wanting to do I have an idea how you can do yours without drilling any holes if you have a center brace or thwart not sure of the spelling. These outriggers can be modded for a kayak as well in the rod holder behind the seat if someone wanted to stand in their kayak.

I was thinking build a center brace that clamps on the gunnels and mount the boom on top of that and select the size or distance you want the outriggers to extend then add a 90 degree pvc connector and figure out the distance you want the outriggers height for you canoe and the add the crab pot floats to that. I hope you understand what I am trying to say I can visualize it probably better than I can explain it

I think you would have to draw me a sketch. I don't know much about canoe terminology

Ren make a center clamp style mount like urban fisher posted and mount the flag pole mount on top then attach you pvc or what ever material you want to use and at the end of that add a 90 degree that goes down to the actual outriggers that way you can adjust them as needed. I chose not to go with this type of set up because I did not want to step over anything while in the canoe.

Looks like I'll give that a try. My seats are higher than your's so with or without the center clamp in place I would still have to step over center seat to move up & down the canoe.

I have been looking at buying a canoe and building some outriggers.

I like the idea.I give my two cents, but understand I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to outriggers. Where it is attached to the canoe, is there a large plate to disperse the pressure of the outrigger? I mean will the outrigger have a large anchoring place to the canoe hull? It just looks like a lot of arm attached to on small place on the hull. Again, maybe all outriggers are like this. I have no idea? I still like it!!

Shaun there is a metal backing plate with gasket material on both sides to help disperse the pressure

Where did you get the crab pot floats? Are they standard Styrofoam, are something like the swimming noodles are made of? I have found a place I can order from, but they are about $11.00 each. Any idea how many pounds of buoyancy they have?

I don't remember off hand but I will get you the info they are 7x17 they are made of a type of Styrofoam not like a swim noodle. If I remember correctly each one was 28 lbs of buoyancy
