So if you don't do well the first day you are just supposed to get out of the way then? That seems like the jist of this rule.

Unless the "spot" in question is a small thing like a brush pile or rock pile and not an "area" then as long as JVD was a respectable distance from DB then there is nothing wrong with it. A lot of the older guys think they own the lake during the Elites but ultimately it is every man for himself. Denny needs to show some class and not call someone out on stage that is just BS. Further if JVD is 5, 25, or 65 doesn't really matter he paid his entry and it is a public lake. If he is within the rules then TFB. I recently had an older gentlemen that I have known get mad at me for pulling up on a bridge 125 yards in front of him. I told him the exact same thing when he got to me and started complaining.

That's the thing... it was a brushpile on a ridgeline about the size of two boats total. I've had it waypointed for a long time before this tournament and that's where Denny whacked them.

I doubt JVD would have said I didn't find the hole on my own..most folks who hole jump usually say it was a place they found in practice. I think this was actually Rick Clunn's hole that he won a tournament on many years ago.. cool

JVD was there from day 1, Denny was trying to flex and was shut down.

Yeah, if that's getting shut down I'd be happy to get shut down every day for the rest of my life...

i would have said something to you if you cut in front of me when i was fishing down a bank. I think if you just have to fish the same bank im on at least come behind me, dont jump ahead and make me fish your used water. I am not the type of person to bother someone else while they are fishing though. I will turn around and go find them somewhere else, like a good fisherman can do.

If it was indeed a brushpile then I would say JVD was in the wrong unless DB was not on it or fishing near it.

JVD claimed he marked that spot in practice and had dates to back it up. He did zero on day one and sure as anything, day two had him searching other water which so happens was on top of his teammate. I think he should have backed off myself and at least given the leader some room rather than making waves among the elites. He's young and has lots to learn though, things happen. I think Brandon handled it best and he certainly made more friends that day.

I just don't understand BASS writing an article about an Elite angler breaking an "unwritten" rule? That is like MLB writing an article about one of their players breaking an "unwritten" rule on their site. Like someone else said, are they just trying to embarrass JVD? To zero on day one and then make the final 12 is pretty good. He has sponsors to take care of and to make the final day exposes yourself to more TV time, stage time, ETC... Plus this press has helped also! smile To me, BASS could have handled this better than to print an article on their site about it and Denny hollering on stage about it also. Just my 2 cents, for what its worth. Which is about 1 cent.

I obviously don't fish on the Elite level but have fished many, many tournaments over the years. I've had other anglers who took off from the ramp before me and intentionally go to a spot where they saw me catch fish on Sat and actually brag and/or laugh that they got their first. Even going as far as showing me a bass they caught there before I arrived. Pretty classless if you asked me. I usually just shrug it off though and just fish. Normally, catching more or better quality bass is more than just fishing a particular spot anyway. Bait choice and presentation can make a big difference.

No doubt, but Denny was sweating him pretty bad or he would have never called out JVD on this perceived BS.

Mark you seem pretty level headed. What did JVD do wrong? Besides blanking on Thurs...
