Thanks, JR. You would know. So are we simply seeing Ivie come of age with the pure Florida stockings, similar to the same phenomenon we've seen with most lakes 10-15 years later? And just like Fork, I'm sure the recognition and huge surge in angling pressure have also contributed to the incidence of truly giant bass being caught? I've always said about Fork in the Spring..."You put 3,000 anglers on a 27,800 acre lake and someone's gonna chit out and catch a giant" Hence, the clueless beginner who shows up in a borrowed boat slinging around a rattletrap on a point in 30 feet of water and catching a 16 pounder!

Well can't say for sure...bout 20,000 fingerling stocked in 2001. But there were some big natural spawns a couple of years there. Some folks forget that Ivie is a relatively new lake as far as lakes go and has a very high % of Florida bass in it from original stockings.
I think if Falcon had a higher Florida % in some of those fish we would see some 13-15 lb fish pretty regular out of there. Some really long fish caught there that don't weigh like a heavy fish out of Fork or Ivie.
Amistad is loaded with 3.5-5 lb fish right now. Watch out for it in another couple years.
Lakes all seem to go in cycles. Everyone has an argument for the hottest lake when their lake is hot and many think lakes are done for if it hasn't been so hot. I wouldn't count out a lake with a track record like Fork with TPWD watching over it constantly. Falcon has also been getting a big influx of Florida genetics so look out for those fish.

Couldn't agree more, sir. And if the good Lord will give us some water, Ivie should keep chunkin' 'em out for years to come, too. What's funny is we (Texas fisherman) love to opine on whose fishery is best (myself included). One could catch a 10+ from any public water body in this state at any time. We have it sooooooooo good in Texas when it comes to natural resources and their management that we really have nothing to complain about. Ask any professional bass angler who has fished xcross the nation for more than a few years, and the overwhelming choice of favorite state in which to fish will be Texas!

So would a slot have helped prevent what has happened to Falcon?

No. Do you think people on the Mexico side care about a slot?

No it is not enforceable because of the international boundry and no, I do not believe Falcon should be a slot lake. My gosh, it is the BEST public largemouth bass fishery in the country right now. Don't mess with what isn't broken!
While I hate to see big fish go under the knife, truth be told, the harvest at Falcon may help the fishery more than it hurts it, so long as folks observe the legal limits. I totally agree. It is the best lake in the country. ...

No. Do you think people on the Mexico side care about a slot? So are you saying the bass we are no longer catching on the TX side swam over to Mexico and were caught in nets? I've not fished Falcon as much as many on here, maybe 20 days total. That said, I've never seen a net or netter, except for one that looked like it floated away, on the TX side.

Your question says" does falcon need to be a slot lake?" This 3 pages of posts say no. Now you're talking about nets. Not the op. I'm sure most the people in this post an that fish falcon from the Texas side throw their fish back. What the people do on the Mexico with those fish we can't stop or control and they've been doing it for years. Water is low fish are in post spawn and probably are suspended. A slot won't help any of those scenarios.
