I agree. Bigguns like bait. Both of these were on at the same time. Both released to fight another day.

I believe it is sportsman like and it's a helluva lot more fun, especially with kids, than jigging a slab all day. If I wanted to soak a lure all day I'd still be bass fishing.

You did mention 'big' hybrids.

Did I mention bass? Yes. Like most of the hybrids/stripers in these pics, caught on live shad and released to fight another day.

I am a lure fisherman and that is what my clients use on my boat. EXCEPT when its late July and early Aug. I WILL catch me some gizzard shad for those days when them hybrids just wont take anything but a big ole gizzard. If the fish are hitting lures I wont use live bait. There are times of the year Hybrids only want live bait.

X2 on Circle hooks. I use to us the kahle hooks years ago and they hook them fast hitting shad killers but man you hate what they do to the undersize fish.

You got that right I was just telling someone this past weekend how to catch hybrids on hubbard. Troll or shad. Lake record was caught on bluegill.

This is one of those bait fish caught HYBRIDS. I like catching them when I find them so I use bait most of the time.

Not with you Mr. G, warfare with the Hybrids. Great pics though! I usually fish lures from October thru April, then go heavy on live bait in the summer with lures as an option. I also like Downriggers in the heat of the summer.

That big fish was from BP's class of 2002 (caught in 09), I think they are all gone now but some got pretty darn big. May see some more like that in 2 years or so.

Live bait, dead bait, lures, flies, it is all angling when used with rod and reel.

Nets, jug lines, trotlines, bow and arrow, spear, not angling but still fishing.

I'm an angler and will use whatever bait I can that will help me catch fish. Sometimes I will stubbornly stick to artificials, depending on the species I'm going for, but I have no problem with anglers using live bait.

MrG, what do you use to keep your fish in such good condition?
I noticed at Belton and Cedar Creek that your fish looked a lot better than ours, and a lot bigger too. splat

Ice, ice, and more ice. They'll fade quick if they sit in a livewell. They also look fresher when they they are fresh. The fish we weighed at Belton and CC were caught around 1:00PM.
