Trying to place a reel on the 7'6" Duckett crankin rod I bought. Trying to make the decision between a Curado E5 or a Citica. In actuality is the slower gearing of the Curado necessary for anything but the larger, deeper diving crankbaits??

I have the E5 and use it for slow rolling a spinner bait as well.

Is it worth the extra $$? Granted, that is subjective...

Tacklewarehouse.com had them on sale...I hate complex choices, went ahead and bought both. Seemed like the only logical choice...

Get the E5. You can use it for shallow and deep water cranks.

As you know KVD uses Quantum equipment because they are his sponsors but on one of his shows he was throwing square bill cranks and he said he likes a 5-1 gear ratio reel even for shallow cranks.
Rick Clunn likes a faster 6-1 ratio for the shallow cranks.

the only thing about the e5 is that I can't feel the bottom as well as I can with a higher speed reel...probabaly because it is harder to keep it down on the bottom at the max depth of the crank I'm throwing

It is much easier to fish, the lower gear makes for less effort when turning the handle, of course

E5 would be the best reel for the deeper running baits that this rod throws very well.

E5's and E7's on sale at Academy until Saturday for $139.99
E5's and E7's on sale at Bass Pro until June 19th for $139.99

Don't try to get Cabelas to price match--they will not. They will only price match advertised items that are at regular price---but not if they are on sale. They did say they would sell this one time for the same price as an employee discount---$152.95. NO thanks, I will not be going back unless NO ONE else has what I want.

No actually the lower ratio will keep it down easier than a high speed so you should easily feel the bottom with a low speed since you aint tryin as hard to keep it down.

If they are still on sale at BPS I would go for the curado. You can't get a 5:1 with the citica I don't believe. Really, you can't go wrong with either.
