I use shad on rod and reel. The cats are all over the lake right now.

Best advice would be find out when I am fishing and go the opposite way. Then you are bound to find big fish.

Does no one just go fish anymore?

I swear every thread I open has people asking where to go, what to use etc.

This is NEVER going to make anyone a better fisherman.

Fish are in the water. Big fish eat little fish. Find the little fish, the big fish will be close.

Its not all that tough really.

Alot of the questions asked are by kids or people that normally target other species. Not everyone is an expert at catching catfish and you may never know how to do something if you don't ask questions. I catch catfish all the time and I still ask others questions.

Asking questions and having a discussion on something is different than asking for a spot and then how to catch them.

The forum is just rampant with these type of things and to be honest it keeps a LOT of good fisherman away. Heck not too long ago a guy was on the water and posting he couldn't find fish and was asking for spots.

Good grief, if they spent as much time with their line in the water as they did on the keyboard they might catch something.

I do not see how anyone could go to any of the area lakes right now and not scratch out a few catfish.

Dude, chill out a little bit! Everyone needs a little help now and then. Yes, he should know better than to ask for specific locations but it doesnt really matter cause not many people will give up that info, if they do, GREAT! This is a "Forum", there are new people here everyday. If you dont want to help them then dont but dont bash them cause they are trying. Just Sayin!

Ease up a but dude! Not everyone wants to make thenselves into a great fisherman. Some folks only fish a few times a year and just want to catch a few when they go. I have no trouble with those folks asking for pointers. Heck, maybe they've never fished before and have a child that wants to try it out and they're looking to give them a great experience so they'll get to go more. Nothing more boring to a kid then hunting all over the lake and not catching a fish. That's a sure way to put them off of fishing for good. Or, as someone stated above, maybe they do want to be a better fisherman and just want some help getting started. Maybe if they get pointed to a certain spot and method and catch some fish they can analyze why it worked and apply that knowledge to find other spots to catch fish. I'll bet that at some point every fisherman on this thread was pointed to a good spot and told why it was good so they could learn how to find fish for themselves. Not everyone has a father/grandfather/grandmother/mother/aunt/uncle to teach them to fish so the have to ask questions here.

Lot's of reasons that a person asks a question. Why do some folks jump so fast to the worst conclusion?

Quad, you're right. Too many people want to get the benefits of others hard work and time on the water. Pays to read back a few pages or go look at threads from this time last year.

How about when someone joins and in 1 day has all 7 of his posts asking for spots?

Once again, I have no problems with intelligent discussion but good grief if you cannot catch a few fish right now on any lake then you need to hire a guide or something. You don't need to be asking for a "hot spot".

So do a little research and see what the OP's original intentions are.

Most good fishermen don't fish spots, they fish patterns and habits. Sure humps are spots and ridges are sort of spots but, it is more of a pattern.

I told him how to find fish. Find shad and I PROMISE there are catfish there. I think everyone wants to make more out of this then there really is.

Sure some spots have more fish because they hold more bait, or they have better spawning structure but, there are fish all over the lake that can be caught regardless of a spot.
