I always get a kick out of the tourist that for some reason do not think we have sharks in our coastal waters. Hello people. It's called an ocean. Sharks live in it.
Just after catching a shark in the Port A surf a woman approached me, wanting to see it. She expressed amazement that I had caught a shark there. I told her that I often catch sharks there. She responded, "That surprises me because we're in town". Geeeze. You can't fix stupid.

Geeeze. You can't fix stupid. You definitely can't fix stupid, but I think it's more ignorance than anything. While I'm sure common folks are aware there are sharks in the ocean, the vast majority of non-fisherman don't think they're within the close proximity of the beach... I'll be the first to admit that before I started fishing, I was part of that ignorant crowd. When you're not brought up around water, there's a lot you're ignorant of; i.e. species, tides, corrosion, poisonous fish, etc...
