Right now I have an Elite 9 and an HDS 7 on my console. I would like to get a 12 or a 16 and use it for Active Target instead of the Elite. I don't really want to add another transducer. I have seen some Lowrance transducer switches on Ebay but can't find on the Lowrance website.

First of all, Livescope is a proprietary Garmin product, so that won't work with any Lowrance equipment. Maybe you mean Active Target?

You must at least install one new transducer (the Active Target transducer), which is normally attached to the TM or a pole mount for live sonar.
The Active Target transducer cable connects to the Active Target "black box" which then connects to the display with an Ethernet network cable (included with Live Target). If you intend to use the new unit DEDICATED to Active Target (as you seem to say), then you won't need any other transducer for that unit, but you can get more use out of the new unit for the added price of an Ethernet cable. A Lowrance Ethernet cable between the two units will allow both to see the data from your existing transducer - but the configuration must be set up correctly to do this. It's not automatic, so to speak.

I assume the Elite 9 (TS) is at the bow, and the HDS 7 at the console. For best use and flexibility, here is what I suggest if possible:

Move the existing transducer cable to the NEW display unit (because the newer unit will have a much faster image processor which is what makes the transducer data into a visible screen). Additionally, install an Ethernet network cable between the console's HDS 7 and the new 12/16 unit up front. That Ethernet connection will allow you to "see" the transducer data from the existing transducer on BOTH the new unit AND the HDS 7. Sharing the transducer data via an Ethernet cable is MUCH better than using a mechanical switch solution. My proposed configuration will also allow you to turn off the HDS 7 at the console if you don't need to use it while up front fishing. If you're at the console looking at the HDS 7, the new unit at the bow will need to be on to see the shared transducer data, but you'll likely have the outboard running when doing this so there's plenty of power available.

With that added Ethernet cable, your new unit has the option of being used for Live Target AND/OR remote sonar data (think split screen here). Traditional sonar (2D) and structure scan (down/side scan if you have it) would be available on both displays. I believe the HDS 7 isn't going to be able to see the Active Target data (not supported if I remember correctly), but don't think that would be an issue for what your probably want to accomplish.

I fixed the post. Not sure why I typed Livescope. I meant Active Target. My plan is to dump the HDS 7 for a newer 12" or 16" unit which I would use primarily for Active Target but want to retain the option of using the regular transducer. Sounds like the ethernet cable is the way to go.

No problem. Luckily, the Elite 9 FS has ONE (and only one) physical Ethernet port. It can communicate with other Elite 9 FS's wirelessly, btw. The Ethernet cables are way overpriced for what they are, but it's part of the overall make money plan at Lowrance.

Another option I have is to either get rid of the LSS structure scan transducer I have on the transom or move it to the trolling motor. I don't use the unit on the bow very often. I am guessing that the LSS transducer won't work with my Elite.

Why get rid of the LSS transducer when it's already mounted and I can't think of anything you'd gain by removing it? Do you intend to use Active Target when at the bow actively fishing? That's the typical use - live sonar is of questionable value if you're sitting at the console (no fishing pole in hand). I'm curious what setup you're trying to accomplish. Which mode do you plan to use the Active Target in? (Forward, Down, or Scout mode)

Right now I am using Active Target at the console and I have a fishing pole in my hand. I know it is not the best way to use it but don't fish from the bow very often. I use it primarily in Down. I am just wanting a larger screen at the console and not have to mount another transducer. A switch would be the best option for what I want to accomplish.

Now that you have said what you are doing...... (which is somewhat different from typical), I have further comment.

I have no clue why you think a transducer switch is the best option, nor what that would do for you. It will not work if you mean for one of the switch inputs to be Active Target. Active Target connects to any supported display unit indirectly with an Ethernet cable - always. Any 2D and/or Structure Scan transducer connects to one of the two connectors provided on the back of the display. With those two connectors plus Active Target coming in on an Ethernet cable, the result is that you can see whatever is on THREE transducers on the display unit without the use of any switch.

A "transducer switch" will not work with Active Target. The old-school transducer switches had connections for single-crystal transducers. Active Target itself actually utilizes an array of many individual transducer crystals molded into one transducer housing, which is why Active Target has that fat cable that connects to a signal processor and not the display unit itself.

The 12" and 16" Carbon/Live units support TWO transducers directly connected to the back of the display. In ADDITION, the Active Target accessory can be connected to either of the Ethernet ports on the back of the display. From the menu of the display you can select which transducer to view. The best way to do that is with multiple custom pages set up for each view you would might like to see - then all you have to do on the water is select the page with the view/views you want to see.

Ok, I understand all of that. My goal is to be able to use the Elite in chart mode and use the 3 in one transducer on the 12" unit when looking for fish and structure while idling. I know how to customize pages. I primarily fish open water. My goal is to be able to utilize one transducer for both units. Right now I can use my HDS on the console without interfering with the Active Target. Not sure I could do that with the Elite. I am probably better off just spending my money to upgrade to lithium batteries.

You can use the Elite in chart mode - there's no need for any transducer to be connected to it for that purpose. The Elite TS could still see Active Target via an Ethernet connection, and even other views.
Your Active Target could connect to the new unit (which has 2 Ethernet connections). The second Ethernet port on that new unit would then connect to the Elite TS with an Ethernet cable.
The LSS you have currently would be supported by the new 12"/16" unit. The views from that transducer would be visible on either display unit.
I am befuddled where the sudden mention of upgrading batteries to Lithium comes from. That won't really change anything. If you are doing a lot of this with the outboard running, it's going to keep the battery charged anyway.

I'm at a loss as to what to offer at this point. I'm also not understanding what you thought a transducer switch would do for you. (That only works for 2D transducers), nor what a battery upgrade would do.

I did not mean to confuse you. The battery statement was just me thinking if i have $2k to spend on the boat I might get more bang for my buck by upgrading my batteries. Although I could do both. At this point I am just spending the kids money.

Batteries will continue to decline in price as manufacturing volume increases, so you could do those at a later date with no harm. Lowrance is doing a unit introduction, so pricing on what they sell now is as good as it gets. Once that transition is complete, I expect pricing to rise back to something that will make you consider saying "uncle". I'd do the unit update now while the gettin' is good.

I don’t mean to confuse both of y’all…but the elite 9”series and the HDS 7’s all have only one Ethernet port. So you ain’t sharing AT between those units. If you had an HDS 9 or bigger, those have two Ethernet ports and that would make connecting an AT module and other Ethernet Lowrance units, so they can share the image, possible….again, only if they have the Carbon or FS model number.

We're not confused. Yes, the HDS 7 and Elite FS have only one Ethernet port. HOWEVER, he's looking at ditching the HDS 7 and adding a 12 or 16 inch Lowrance product in its place. With the 2 ports available on 12"/16" units, he can connect one port to the Elite FS and the other to Live Target.
