I am right handed, but cast with my left. Broke my right arm as a teenager and had to learn to cast left handed, if I wanted to fish. Still cast left handed today. For the reasons you are questioning, it made sense to me and I just continued.

Any reason I shouldn't use the baitcaster casting and holding right handed, reeling left? thanks.

Im right handed and use left handed reels. I always have. Being new to baitcasters it wont be awkward, it will be natural. Do it, you'll be glad you did.

Finally!!!!! Every freakin' thing on this planet is built for right-handed people, and we lefties have to improvise, adapt, and overcome. Now there's something designed predominantly for lefties, and you righties have to adjust.

If you are casting or pitching to targets there is a big speed advantage for using a reel where you don't have to switch hands. You will also have control of the bait as soon as it hits the water.

I have left and right handed reels, because I find that certain techniques are easier for me, or lets just say I have more confidence, in the reel; whether it be left or right handed.

It all boils down to if your Dad gave you a zebco 33 to start with or a nice spinning outfit. Most folk from the northern US fished spinning rods while those of you from the south live were the Zebco was king. So if you cast, change hands and then real you might be a redneck... Kidding...

I have never been able to master reeling with my left hand. On both my bait casters and spinning reels. I cast with my right hand and reel with my right hand. It just feels natural to me.

I am right handed, learned to fish with a Zebco, but soon discovered they were trash. So I moved on to spinning reels, so when I started using baitcasters, left handed was the natural way to go. Then I got tennis elbow and had to start using right hand reels. So now I use both, just to make sure and keep my tennis elbows at bay grin
