Several of us Brazos Valley Flyfishers will be making our annual float trip down the Brazos below Whitney dam on Memorial day May 30th. We have floated the river with some of you-all before. This could be the best trip yet judging from the flows and reports lately. All are welcome and invited to join us. BYOB bring your own.. beer, bait, babes, bass, and boats!

I floated the upper Brazos below PK dam this weekend and was told that there would be hundreds of canoes and kayaks next weekend. Hopefully it won't be that crowded below Whitney. Have Fun and Good Luck! Wm

Flows out of Whitney? I was below the dam about 6 weeks ago and the flows were terrible. We waded in below Dick's and the river looked terrible. We moved about a mile above Dick's and the River was still terrible. You may have to drag a lot, unless the Whitney Dam release is up considerably...

The flows are always risky sometimes it's up and sometimes down but whichever it is it will be an adventure. We will have at least 4 people and probably six. I might put in at Dick's and go up river while the others head down from the dam or use my car as the shuttle vehicle and leave it at Dicks and stay with the group.

The flows are back to normal if not abnormal. You can check the recent flows here: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv?cb_...ite_no=08093100 For the past two weeks the release has been periodic at around midnight and lasting until 11:00 - noonish idling at >40cfs. Six weeks ago the flows were all but barren at less than 30cfs and idling for days. The jist is theyre basically still repairing/replacing the generators and need the lake to be as low as possible and they cant do so with all the rain the brazos has been recieving, not only at whitney, but up and downstream of the lake. If i were looking to surf the brazos, now is the oppurtunity.

The Brazos has been fishing great. I allways check the Flows. That determines if I go. If in the AM 500cfm, it will be perfect for me when I get there. 1 hour from my house in Midlothian.

Today, 5mins ago, the flows are 238cfm. perfect. When you look at the flows. Brazos at Aqullia. That is the bridge at Dicks Canoe. Last week I saw the guy that gages the rivers for the 4th time.We talked for awile, and he told me the memo he got about gators migrating up the rivers. So, this week has been my job to find out where?. Got a email from TP&W. they are not that far up yet.If I knew how to post it I would.

For my size, I can handle 500cfm. any more No. They have been generating in am. so, by the time I get to where I am going, flows allways on the way down.I am a wading flyfisher.
