I don't believe there is anyone here on this forum that would not go to a hole simply because they had seen someone else catch fish there. Everyone would make a mental note and check it out at a later date when the opportunity arose. Is there anything wrong with that? I don't think so. Remeber that everyone has to learn how to fish a spot. Just because you catch fish there, don't mean that everyone can.

Good fishermen do not win tournaments by having the best hole. They win by knowing how to pattern fish and make the adjustments necessary to stay on top of them and to change when the fish do. It's all about the pattern - not the spot.

If I'm fishing a tournament and I know old so and so fishes in a certain spot, and he is fishing the same tournament I probably wouldn't go there. If he's not fishing, I might. It just depends on whether or not the spot fits the pattern I have worked out before every tournament. On top of that I would not fish a spot in a tournament without practicing it first. Does that now make it mine?

This really sounds like small potatoes to me. Just remember that if you are fishing a tournament you have to plan for every contingency, which includes your starting spot being covered up.

rp2987 you are the man, very well written.

I think you guys should draw a map and mark all the locations so the rest of us fishmen will know the community holes.

Thanks!

Ah, the story would be good, but I say 'well said', rp2987. But look at it like this...I'm retired, fish week days only...but with todays equipment it's just too easy to hit the waypoint buttom should you see some catching a big fish...I was just a point down from him but checked the spot my next trip. As rp said, I always considered my practice time on a lake to develop a milk run come tournament day...I wouldn't feel very prepared if I had only one spot.

I was out on a lake all by my lonesome 2 weekends ago and fished a spot I never fished before. Turns out it is loaded with fish; I had a great day. Last weekend I went back, but when I got to the spot, there was a boat literally anchored on "my" spot, catching fish as fast as they could cast. I fished a spot a couple of hundred yards away, keeping an eye on them, waiting for them to leave so I could go to "my" spot. I finally left for a couple of hours and came back; they were gone. I go to "my" spot, they come back by and see me fishing "their" spot. OH MY GOODNESS, NOW I'M A HOLE JUMPER!!! Not. Fished the spot the weekend before, never saw a single other boat on that spot in all the years I fished that lake, thought I was the only one that knew about it!

Until I can start reading minds or making my living fishing tournaments, I won't get my shorts in a wad about "hole jumping".

Daniel,

How do you expect any of us to catch any fish than if we can't fish "your spots" ?

What if you're a guide being followed around by another boat?

Hearing a beep as they mark a waypoint would be the most annoying.

It happens to all of us - not just full-time bass fishermen.

How about hole jumping with you fishing the spot? I had a marker out on a ridge on Tbend. I had moved from the marker about 20 yards. Here comes a guy, trolls up to it and then punches his waypoint button. I could only laugh, the nerve, arrogance and ignorance of some wannabes.

I don't consider anything like that mine...unless it is in my backyard where I live there 24/7...I agree with the other guy, best to have more than one spot and fish the conditions (which includes other anglers possibly being on that same spot).

In the little trail that I regularly fish, we all have our own little holes and everyone usually respects each others spots. I have one spot on Falcon that I have brought in at least 30 lbs on at least 5-6 times in the last two years. Several people know where I am fishing and they never try and move in on it. And vise versa.

THere is this one guy that wins every Falcon tourny with like 40 lbs, I know exactly where he catches them, yet would never go fish that spot unless he is not in the tourny.

But, this is why I hate tourny anglers, cause there is always somebody that will do this!
