if you clean alot of fish, spray the blades with PAM or something similar, and the blades wont gum up, also, blades are cheap, but you can sharpen them yourself, sharper than they come new, some good vids on u tube showing how.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Do not get the more expensive one in the black case from academy, the one that has the different power source hook ups. It is not as powerful as the cheaper knives. The only plus is the CASE.

I use American Angler. Get the blades that are thin and flexable, they work best!

Hey Kevin & Cliff, I'm thinking about getting the AA model 31615 (110+12v). Do you have the "Shark" blade?

The American Angler 12v/110 model normally $50 is on sale this week at Cabella's for $14.99. I have used many of their 110 volt cheap ones and never had a problem. To me if, you pay $15 for a knife and get a year or two of hard use out of it before it has troubles, that was still a great value. I was fishing 140 days a year when I was using them full time. I have invested an absolute fortune in the Rapala electrics and have been incredibly disappointed. I have the 12v, 2 110 12v combos and the 110 only. The last one is the only one I can use, but much prefer the cheaper AA previously mentioned. Also the Rapalla knives use proprietary blades and will not use the specialty replacement blades the others share. I have been a fan of Rapalla for decades, but they lost me on their electric knives. If you want to go traditional (non electric) and don't clean 300 crappie a week then the cork handled Browning has become my favorite since I posted this on YouTube about it last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmUDb1O46HMI am just now getting up to about 75% as fast as with my electrics, but I keep it very sharp quite easily. (I am a full time woodcarver and sharpening things is not much of a stress for me)I don't know how it would hold an edge if I didn't touch it up after every use.

I still use the same type of knife I was taught to fillet with when I was about 12. The original wood handled rapala. I have a set of 30 year old ceramic sticks, and a 20 year old knife. ( lost a knife somewhere along the way) Five or six strokes on the sticks before each cleaning session will bring it to shaving sharpness. I don't know if the current production of Rapala knives are as good as the old ones , I doubt it , nothing seems to be. MO
