First, good fish, congrats.

Second...

I'm one of the people who 'comes on the internet' asking for information about fish. I do it here instead of hanging out at the marina and bugging people wink My dad taught me a fair bit about black bass fishing and if you put me on my home lake in Georgia I'll put you on fish in no time. I'm in texas now and I don't know the waters, fish, or general bite and in this particular forum I'm after info on hybrids because I don't have much experience with them. I try to ask for general info not "Where you catch that and how?" I try to find out things like where fish like to be, when, and why, not specific coords but concepts like depth and cover. I plan on sharing anything I know when anyone that asks once I know a little more. I'm on the recieving end right now and I try to be polite and humble as the beggar of information.

I fully understand wanting to horde information or see people go out and 'earn it' the way you did but I'm willing to bet you didn't pick up a rod and reel and go out blind and never get any help, tips, or otherwise. Without experienced fishermen feeding the inexperienced fishermen the sport can't progress.

Before the internet if I wanted to get information I had to go to a library or find some one to bother. Rapid sharing of information via the internet has made our entire race stronger in that we have the ability to share and gain knowledge at an incredible rate. We can also post pictures of cats playing the piano... suck on that '80s.

I guess what I'm tryin to say is I understand why you feel the way you do but it's no different than hanging out at the dock and askin some old timer how he did, finding out he did well, then askin if he has any tips and having him tell you to F off and find your own fish.

I suppose it's the difference between giving a man a fish (GPS Coords, lure selection, time) and teaching a man to fish.

Tell me more about Lake Proctor. How big is it and how old is it? Does the TPWD stock the lake?

if you want to give out information about where and how you're fishing, fine. if someone doesn't offer the information, don't ask. to me, that's freaking lame. kinda like asking......

"hey bro, where'd you buy that sweet abercrombie shirt? How much was it? can i borrow it?"

Actually "me and the boys" and "woody03", the post about the boat in my lap was AFTER my original post. Look at the dates on the post genius....

well i'll add my %.02 here i always tell where, when, and how to the exact spot or spots. It's no skin off my nose. If I can help anyone with the information i give, then i am glad it worked out. If the fish change from the time i post it and you don't catch any well i am sorry your luck didn't pan out. I just figure that being nice and kind is always the best policy. I wasn't like that years ago but I changed after one man told me one time where to go and catch a mess of crappie and ever since then i have done the same thing.I still catch fish even if someone is fishing the same "hole" as i was going to.So don't worry hawkpuppy 1 the fish will still be there tomorrow or maybe not BUT you will fell better in the long run with a little info. Mark

Sorry , have to chime in . Yeah I know no one wants to give away all their secrets but personally I love to point a spot out to someone and if they respect the fish and the site I get enjoyment knowing I help them to share the experience I had . Heck I was on a lake a few months ago when I first started fresh water fishing and a guy gave me and my nephew a lure that was really working for him . I was just a little 12 for $3.95 lure but it was the sharing that effected me . Now I carry a bag of those lures and everytime I run across somone thats fishing I give them one .. dumb I know but I like to think that maybe it will effect them the way it effected me and my nephew .. if anyone ever runs into a guy at white rock that tell you where to fish and what lure and gives you one .. say "Hi" to him for me and tell him I said thanks .

I do share information about how and where I catch my fish, just not out here all the time in an open public forum where everybody and their dog can see it. I have alot of friends that tell me "honey holes" as I tell them mine in turn. I just don't like fishing in crowds is all. It has happened to me too many times where I have told people that I don't know locations to fish and hunt with them swearing up and down they won't tell anyone or go back unless I am with them only to find them and all their buddies there the next time I go. Been burned too many times. Sorry.

Dave

With gas being $4 a gallon, I'm not sure that Lake Proctor will get too crowded due to this thread. Lewisville might be another matter - ever try that lake on a weekend?

Have any of you folks heard of the Diamond J Ranch? If you run across Kenneth, shake his hand. He has something special going down there near Gustine in Comanche county.

Proctor is a small little mud hole and nobody should waste there time and gas going there. There are no shad in the lake at all and even fewer hybrids and whites so dont bother:)
