I was fishing a point on Palestine last week. A boat went behind me and started fishing the bank...until they saw me catch a small spotted bass on about three casts in a row.
Next thing I know they have trolled up beside me. The guy in the front of the boat says, "Are you fishing a tournament?" I said "no, I'm just fishing" very matter of factly...wondering all the while what difference it made.
I guess he could tell I wasn't going to be happy if he sat right beside me and threw at my spot, so he trolled past me...to basically right on top of the point...and started throwing right at where I was casting.
It was on the tip of my tongue to say, "Really? Do you really think that is cool? To go right past me and throw right where I have been fishing? You really think that is all right?"

I can relate this to dealing with traffic...some people will wave you in and others will wave you the finger.
It's all good. Some people just lead pitiful lives full of hate and remorse!

Open your eyes & look within, are you satisfied with the life youre living.
No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life. Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs.

I complained on here (tff) once about bass guys dragging through my lines while I was bankfishing.
His response?
"I make more money than you, and bass fishing brings more money to the state than your fishing"
awesome.
I would have doinked him in the nose with a crankbait, and then set the hook, reeled him to the shore, and took a picture of him before I pulled the hooks out, and "released" him to swim after his boat, but I'm a prick by nature.

Thats flat ridiculous. Im arrogant enough to say I promise you I make more than "him"... However, my father has always told me when it comes to fishing around people on the bank--- "Son you have a boat, they dont, they can only fish what they can reach from the bank be courteous and thankful you have a boat and give them room". I agree. Its THAT SIMPLE.

I think it boils down to parenting. I was taught at an early age to respect anyone's fishing area and to this day I still do. So it's not about Bass fisherman it's about the lack of parenting.... my two cents The older I get and the more I fish, I am more and more shocked to see it is "acceptable" to run by another boat while they are fishing... WHen I was a kid, I grew up thinking that was a sin. Now I see it everywhere, and nothing gets my blood boiling more on the water than somebody running by on plane close to a boat with kids in it.. I will likely end up in jail before this is over...

Why do most boaters like to cast up close to shore and bankers like to cast far out as they can.... hmmmmmmm...
Met a guy the other day, no other boat in site in a huge cove. He comes up with big motor, shuts it down, jumps to front of boat, slams trolling motor down, puts it on high and cuts in front of me to fish. His excuse was.... "I was here last week catching fish"...
all kinds...

There are plenty of folks just getting into the sport and maybe they honestly don't know good boating/fishing etiquette. They need to be politely told what they are doing wrong so they can correct it, and make sure to take pictures so they can be publicly shamed on forums.

However, there is that 2% of people who should have the "ten" rule applied to them.

I agree, I think this is just like reading the threads of guys that fish everyday getting mad because not everyone is as fast at loading and unloading a boat. My wife was trying to learn to back the trailer down while we were recovering our boat one day and got cussed out by this other lady for taking to long (didnt know this until afterwards). unfortunatlly that lady who was so much better at launching and recovering hit a large boulder under the water and put a whole in her nice ski boat.
point is, did my parent teach me about proper boat ettiquete? no, and why not, because we never had a boat. doesnt mean they were bad parents though.

Just because someone is bank fishing on a given day does not mean that they are not boat owners. Depending on what you are fishing for banking it may be a better option.
For my story:
One time I was fishing up a creek on Lake Tyler back when I had an aluminum bass boat. I was far enough up the creek that there was not enough room to turn around, and I was in a 16' boat. Next thing I know, a fiberglass rig with three young dudes in it comes roaring into the cove where the creek dumps in. They start fishing up the creek I am in, and before long they had me sealed up in there where I could not get out when I was ready to leave. I seriously thought about firing up and blowing past them with about 5' of clearance between us, that's how bad they had me bottled up. It takes all kinds.
If your boat fishing and you see people fishing off the bank give them a wide birth, it is true you both have the right to fish the water, but the bankers have a lot less choices than you about where to fish, plus sometimes lines break on the cast and you really don't want to get hit by a three ounce lead and hook combo. I know I have broken some off when my shock leader got wrapped around an eyelet, scary how far them things will go when they break like that.

Those darn bass fisherman with their fancy wrapped boats... they are the devil I tell ya! Not all of us are inconsiderate a-holes, just like with anything in this world there is a certain percentage of a-holes. For every 3 or 4 courteous bass fisherman you have one A-hole. We've all encountered said a-hole at one time or another... non sense in letting someone elses horrible attitude or miserable life affect you. For the record I have more issues with pleasure boaters and jet skis messing up fishing areas than I do other fisherman.

I always give the bank fisherman their space and troll way wide around them. The way I see it, I have the whole lake to fish whereas they are pretty confined to one area.
