If your fishing rocks and you want to fish a jig then forget a football jig. Go for a lighter weight/smaller head wood/arkie jig such as a 3/8 ounce jig. The trailer should be something like the stike king rage tail trailer or something that has action on it and work the bait more vertically rather than dragging it on the rocks.
You will lose all your football heads fishing rocks and dragging it unless the rocks are sporadic. From what it sounds like you fish dams alot and football head jigs are for dragging and not lifting.
The trailer is huge as well, if you drag a jig it should be something that strongly resembles a craw if you lift it should have more action. I can't stress that enough.

I throw a FB jig ALOT!!! All I use is the black angel FB jig. I use 3/4 & 1oz only. Peas & carrots and Cadillac craw are two of the best colors there are. Pimp juice is also great. The black Angel is great because of a few things. First is the hook, it has a 5/0 Hvy wire hook that will not bend at all and allows you to winch those big girls up before they get wrapped. Next the paint on the head won't chip, big deal with a football jig and it's hand tied, never going to loose or pull down the skirt. For a trailer I use the Hyper Freak and cut a split down the tail...for whatever reason this gets the big girls!!! Enough said...

Heres one of my all aroud favorites, and a goto bait. 1ounce football head, in Baby Turtle Color, with a 4" RoboWorm kickin craw in green neon pumpkin. This jig is made by strikeworks and has a huge meat hook in it. I throw it on 20# seaguar invisX and really lay into them on the hookset. (i put a quarter near the hook to see the size comparison)

I spend a lot of time crankin rocks roadways and dams. I want to add football jigs to my technique on these same rocks.
What are your favorite football jigs:
Brands?my own Colors?any black & purple Trailers and trailer colors?Hags undertaker or my hillbilly bug
Thanks in advance.

I pour 3/4 oz and 1 oz football head jigs with a heavy 5/0 Mustad hook. This hook is built to tackle big fish. Had 38 lbs for my best 5 last week on one ledge at Falcon. Majority of fish on FB jigs (1 oz).
I'll sell them for $3 each finished with skirt or $1.75 each with just the raw head and no skirt. Painting jig heads and building skirts is a fun way to get into tackle building if you are interested.
