my favorites in certain conditions are anything that rises, you can tailor your leader length to the depth the fish are suspending off the bottom.

figured this out in 87 on fayette, slug-o's used to be my fav but are hard to find now use the zoom swim aits now.

they also used to make a thing called a worm life jacket, little foam sleave that will float any worm or lizzard very effective

yes but i have had better luck with a mag fluke with a split shot above the bait 6 - 18 inches

You can also buy the punch hubs from a few websites now. They aren't just for flipping. Build a skirt whatever color you want, peg it with a bobber stop and add a skirt to whatever you want. They haven't seen a weightless jig yet.

No such thing as the best one...use your situation to judge what you need. There are lots of options out there. A lot of the "single best bait" answers you will get will be from prostaffers.
