The upper third (roughly 8,000 surface acres) north of the FM 1097 bridge is nearly all National Forest lands...and accessable to the public. There is the "Cagle Campground" park near FM 1375, the Stubblefield Road area, The Scott's Ridge boat launch/park area (US Army Corp facility), and the Stubblefield Campgrounds on the far north end of the lake. There is also fishing around the Stow A Way and Loch Ness Marinas off Calvary Road.
Hope to see y'all there.

i was standing at some marina on the lower west side of the lake looking down at tons of residentially developed lake side knowing that i couldnt fish anywhere over there. then looking up towards the top and seeing all the forest i just assumed that you werent allowed to fish anywhere up there. thats what i get for assuming! assumtion is the mother of all failure! someone deserves a ball sack punch for going all the way out there and letting things rest on an assumption!

I will generally follow the TPWD proscripts and remove grassers from where they shouldn't be...I've slipped up a few times here or there, but life is just easier following the rules... ![wink wink](/forums/images/graemlins/default/wink.gif)

For those who may be considering to participate in the Lake Conroe Grass Carp Tournament on July 9th... Ramada Inn in Conroe (located at the intersection of I-45 and South Loop 336) has offered rooms for the night of July 8th at reduced prices. The manager's name is Brandon Gooden (281-788-4012), and he said ALL room prices are negotiable. They have space available for boats/trailers, and parking lot security is being worked out. There will be early registration available at Stow A Way Marina on July 8th from 4:00-8:00 pm...and participants can also register the morning of the 9th beginning at 5:00am. Registration forms can be found on www.sevencovesbassclub.com Hard copies of the registration forms can also be picked up at the following locations: (on Lake Conroe) - Stow A Way Marina, April Plaza Marina, Papa's on the Lake, Eldorado Jacks, and Wolfies Bar and Grill. The Academy stores in both Conroe and The Woodlands, Bass Pro Shops in Katy, TX, and the Gander Mountain store in Spring, TX also have forms available.

This might be an interesting gathering; however it will hardly put a dent in the Grasser population, it would be a full time job for bowfisherman and anglers to successfully remove all the fish, it may spawn some interest in carp fishing but don't expect to rid the lake of these fish.

I agree. It seems we have a following from those invoved with the the tourney for the sake of accuracy and to keep my beloved common carp in highest esteem and most importantly not to confuse the great unwashed could we PLEASE start calling this fish by the proper name of WHITE AMUR in the press on the forum and when talking to fishing buddys and all other case's please refrain from using the term "grass carp" they are as close to being a blade of grass as they are to being a carp... ![soap soap](/forums/images/graemlins/default/soapbox.gif)
