I've used dryer lint for a while and it works fine for me. If your punch bait's oder can not overcome some dryer lint oder, get a better punch bait guys! Really, think about it, you may add half a handful of dryer lint to a gallon of punch bait, any oder in the lint will not overcome the oder of the bait. Yes the lint absorbs the water/liquids, this helps keep the bait from becoming soupy and it stays on the hook better. To each his own, but dryer lint works great for me and cost nothing and is easy to get.

Suprised nobody has mention using flour. If it becomes soupy or watery add some flour, just like you would a gravy or something. Thicken it up. Also not sure about you guys but moist flour kinda clumps.

I personally wouldnt use dryer lint for odor, but if it works for some then so be it :P

also, folks should realize it does not take a big wad of good punch bait to entice a bite! as long as the hook is coated with a few fibers hanging on, it is enough bait!

Good point Keith, if the fish are there and eating, you don't need much bait on the hook at all. Couple times I brought in a fish, while putting it in the cooler let the hook hang over the side of the boat only to have another cat come and hit it.

I have kinda figured I am trying to get to much on the hook and this confirms it...

Also I recommend to those using pliers, not to, or be very careful. depending on your line type, using pliers on or around the eyelet will weaken your line, causing you to possibly lose the "ONE".

My CJ's wont stay on the hook either, I keep reeling it in and the bait is gone, but, there is a fish on the hook in place of the bait...maybe I should change to a bait that is on the hook when I reel it in, instead of a fish...just joking, but
I do not have a problem, and like it has been said, trying to bait a hook from a pint size container is really hard to do.

Okay you guys, I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet, and it works and I do it all the time with my punch bait when it gets watery due to the heat.
You know that dryer lint that you are supposed to clean out of the wire catch basket on your clothes dryer to keep from catching your dryer on fire.
Yep, just save it up and and keep a zip lock in your tackle box or in the boat, and when you need to thicken up the punch bait just add a little at a time until it's the way you like it. excellent idea Jimbo. I'm going to try this for sure. I dont have lots of cattail around my place, but dryer lint is in infinite supply! What about the smell from the fabric softener? Would that not affect the smell of the bait? JIM

What do you guys use to get punch bait to stay on the hook better? I was using DK and u couldn't get that stuff off but now switched to CJs but it just doesn't stay on as good. I have heard a few things to do, add hair, tear up paper towels..... I did a search and couldn't find any info on this so let's hear it! Switch back to Kings...that's probably your problem. I know of 3 punch baits that don't stay on that well. Mr. Whiskers stays on better than any i've found.

The new jar of CJs I had today stayed on great. Had the shad kind. Last time had monster. Caught 10 channels in about 20 mins. Not too bad.
