I also put a Racal (believe that is the name) fuel/water separatores on my boat after a $550 repair bill due to ethanol. And always use Stabil. In response to the above question about adding Stabil to gas that has been in the tank for months, I understand it will not help. And it does not displace water already in gas, only keeps it from getting into the tank to start with. But, I could be wrong on that too. Okie Bob I don't know how true it is but Star Tron advertises that it CAN FIX bad gas due to ethanol de-stabilization (I guess that's a word. HA!) But what I do know is, I've used blue stabil going on 3 years & no sign ot trouble yet..

Stabil Marine version every tank
Installed:
Water filter/seperator with clear bowl factory filter in motor
2nd water filter (10 micron Racor)/water seperator external added in bilge
Racor fuel vacuum gauge with peak sweep indicator in bilge installed on fuel line
Measure the ethanol content at retailer pump at every refill and avoid if less than 9% or more than 10% ethanol content.
Purchase only Premium grade gas at major retailer...not discounted brands.
Use fuel within 90 days of purchase., else remove and add to auto.

Do you use this stuff on every tank? How expensive is it? Don't let the Sta-bil bottle price fool you. You don't use a bottle every fill up. You use about an oz per 10 gal of gas. 8oz bottle is about $9, if you buy it alittle at a time. If you buy a big bottle you can get cost down to 50 cents for 10 gallons of gas. The Star Tron is about the same cost. Very cheap insurance.

I use the blue stabil at every fill up. I follow the instructions on the bottle.. Examining FX2 but have not bit the bullet yet.

don't use it except during the winter months. No problem. I am convinced that ethanol is a non-issue on newer motors.

Murphy's law states that if anything can go wrong, it will. I'm a firm believer in Mr Murphy's law and take every precaution I can. First, our gas comes from a distributor and they are required to buy ethanol at a rate of 10% for the amount of unleaded gas they buy and add it at 10%. How do you know if it is 10% or maybe 12% on this tank? Or maybe even 20%? Did you check it at the pump? Did the store owner where you bought the gas? Didn't think so. Accidents happen. There is NO guarantee the gas you think is ethanol free really is and for a little insurance, to me it is money well spent. Okie Bob

I've been using PRI-G for about a year now and the more I use it the more I like it. My '85 150 Merc surprises me every time I fire her up now. I also don't seem to use as much fuel as I did before. I'm not connected with the company in any way, but I'll promote any product that works and this stuff works. Another nice thing is we travel all over this great country for my wife's work and I can buy PRI-G at Camping World.

Blue stabil everytime, no exceptions....why invest that kind of money on a boat, then cut corners on the cheap stuff....?

I use the Blue Sta-bil every tank. Started off using the red Sta-bil since it was half the price of the blue and then I realized that the blue calls for half the dosage as the red so the cost is actually the same. Really not convinced there is a difference between the two but since blue states its for marine applications why chance it.

Blue Sta-bil is supposed to have much more of the anti-oxidation or rust preventer components......some techs on the boat motor forums are seeing oxidation directly on relatively new, but failing fuel injectors. The blended fuels we buy, contain ethanol which attract water which can't be filtered nor separated out by a water seperator any more, so it reaches the pistons and motor components resulting in oxidation . Red Stabil is apparently alcohol based. Blue is not.

You might be then interested in looking at some of the posts in the marine motors forums written by techs reporting they are seeing oxidation and other evidence of ethanol induced water contamination on failed fuel injectors causing blown power heads on newer motors.

I've started using sea foam and can tell a difference. My fuel injected motor runs smoother. Why do some of ya'll add blue stable as well? I thought sea form helped with ethanol as well as carbon build up.
