Going on my 1st tuna trip. Starting to purchase some heavier gear that my Texoma Striper gear...LOL
Any advice on strong knot(s) for the variety of lures. looks like topwater for the tuna, vortex Jigs for deep dropping, etc...a little apprehensive with the various reports on losing a good fish due to a knot slip. Any advice greatly appreiated.

So, from braid, main line, started with a 7 twist surgeon loop. The, tried this "worm knot", 70# braid to 80# mono. http://www.knotworkfishing.com/video/worm.htmfinaly, the 80# mono to a 11/0 hook using the tuna knot. Tied the braid to my trailer hitch, attached the hook to a scale and slowly applied pressure...braid on the hitch broke at 40#...other knots held well...tring thing out at the house before I get on the boat...any feedback is welcome.

Well, being one that likes to keep things simple I usually connect the braid to the mono topshot or fluoro leader with a Uni - Uni or a Slim Beauty. Double the braid. I don't think I have any more knot failures than the other guys.
And as mentioned to your other post about connecting the hook I use a Palomar or an Improved Clinch. The Tuna knot looks simple enough but since these others have always worked for me I have no reason to try something different at this stage.

Just make sure to use a 5/0 or 6/0 hook for chunk fishing..a good rule is your thumb should be able to cover the whole hook. Hook sizes vary between maunfacturers so the thumb deal gets your hook right regardless of their size ratings.

A knot that Kil Song uses and has lots of faith in is one I believe he referred to as the "reverse trilene knot". Having fished with Kil a few times I feel if it's good enough for him it's pretty good

I too keep it simple like tunatamer. Braid to Mono/Flouro with a Uni-Uni as long as the size difference is not too extreme.
Hook to Mono/Flouro with a Palomar.
We could talk about this for hours. I will tell you however that if I would have seen Bazztex's links about 5 years ago, this would have saved me precious hours off of my life.
I think I like this forum.........
