I used to target them in a lil slough off of the neches river. 10 dollars worth of white $1 spinnerbaits sometimes wouldn't last very long. Biggest one I've caught came last year on lake of the pines. It was a DD.

We do some evening dock fishing with minners, you can bet money you'll get 1-2 every time. The dang things never quit fighting, even in the net they're mean..

Low water levels brings them to the main lake areas, you will see them dissappear when the water level comes back up and they can get back in the backwaters they prefer.

Earlier this spring I was with Ken A. and I caught 4 in one trip on flukes. Ken's an awesome Grinnell guide.

I was on Fork for 5 straight years and never caught one. I fish out there a few days in the spring and caught a bunch.

I absolutely love these things. As mentioned above, I used to fish for these things in an oxbow off of Big Sandy Creek. A weightless hook, some cut perch, 50lb braid, and a beat around rod and reel can make for a ton of cheap fun. I used to catch at least 10-15 in a 3-4 hr time span. Lots of fun.

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

Holy Cow ********** Lake Fork Record

Bowfin-17.65lbs-36.5 inches-02/21/93-Brenda Walsh-Rod & Reel.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that is also the State record..

Hummmmmmm, I think it was 1987 on Lake Winnsboro I set some jug lines with big shad for catfish. I found one of the jugs 300-yds
away from the rest, when I ck-it there was the biggest Grinnell on it I have ever seen even to this day. I would guess it to be over 20-lbs, a single scale on it was big as a quarter if not bigger.. Heck, I didn't know anything about Grinnell records at the time.. LOL.. That thing was huge...
