Obviously I want to get the most use out of my kayak. Right now I don't really have a place to keep it other than the floor of my garage. Is this bad for it? What us the best way to store it to keep it from deforming or whatever happens when you store it wrong?

Get some of the ladder hooks from Home Depot or Lowe's and hang it on it's side up against a wall. The floor is fine but that will save you space. Be sure to open a hatch or the drain in case any water it in it so it will evaporate and you are good.

Depends on the hull shape. OK recommends 2 storage straps hung so the weight is distributed equally to each strap.

I use two straps to attach my outback to my wall and I store my wifes sport on the ground supported by foam noodles to keep it off the ground and retain the bottoms shape.

I plan on using several pullies up in the rafters of my garage and hosting it up in the air outta the way, probably will staple the 550 cord to several 1x4 that I'll build into a letter I shape to relieve any weight being solely distributed where the rope would be looping around the yak. I'll post some pics once I get it done.

Hanging from the ceiling with one inch straps. Cost about 15 bucks per kayak and took maybe 20 minutes to install.

A key thing when hanging from joists is to flip the kayak upside down so that when you are looking up at it you see the cockpit/deck. The deck is stiffer and is least likely to deform.

I've got some seatbelts out in the garage if anybody wants some straps. (I work in automobile manufacturing and we were scrapping them so I took them home.)

No wonder some of those vehicles coming out of that plant are missing seat belts. Sure they were being scrapped rolfmao Joking aside, I'm interested in taking a couple or 3 straps off your hands. How long are they?

You got me! I was trying to build me a Caddie one piece at a time.

They are pretty long. I'll let you know for sure by tomorrow. I've gotta dig them out and check.

Spiny, post a pic of your hanging system, how do you get the yak in the air.

I started playing around with mine yesterday, the pulleys I have are giving me a fit, but after a little more research I see my errors and will attempt it again. I wonder though if what I'm trying to do is more difficult then what it needs to be.

I found a simple system on youtube for storing your yak in the air. By far the simplest set up I found while searching.

List of materials, from what I can see is as follows.

Rope
2 single pulleys
1 dbl pulley
6 D rings
4 I bolts
2 straps
