depends on who you ask , I have painted 3 aluminum boats now and I have just used Rustoleum metal paint on each. The oil based. I rough the metal up in some spots if its super slick, but I have not had a problem at all with any aluminum boat yet painted with this stuff, and have just about owned aluminun boats my whole life.

There are a lot of people that use severy part primers, and special paints and I am sure that stuff has positive benefits. LIke I said I am on a budget and I, personally have found that $8 Rustoleum paint works fine, so thats what I use, and it lasts, it doesnt start flaking or anything like that.

That's a great looking boat! It'll deff get you back to the places the big boats can't touch!

That's cool... I'll have to get my bro to look at your post. He's got a 14ft jon boat he's been wanting to rig out like this. Like others have said, the most important part is, it gets you out and back safely!

good job on the jon. heck a boat is a boat. back about 10 years ago me a my pops were coming back from our deer lease and we say a 12ft jon boat with a 250vmax on it that the tpwd officer was pulling behind his truck. it had about 10 sand bags in the front of it. hillarious tho.

Couple more questions. How did you attach the decks/wood to the boat? Are you still steering the boat from the back? How long is your boat?

Sorry for all the ?'s I just have found a deal on a 12' flat bottom and this thread gets me all excited of what can be done.

Love them reds

The only thing I screwed down into the boat was on the seats, the bracing that ran across the seating I screwed down onto the boat.

The legs of the framing were cut like 1/4" too big to where they snugged to the bottom of the boat and I just screwed them into the wood of the framing.

My boat is 15ft on top, but if you measure it from the bow to the stern underneath, its 16ft, which is what twpd told me how it is rated, so i guess 16ft.

Its a lot of fun on the water and people stare often, ha I just wave and smile.

and yes, steering from the back. With a boat other than a new one, I prefer tiller steer. Its one less thing that can go wrong and maintain.
