HLS, was that you at Irwin Bridge with the 2 kayak trailer (kayaks where loaded up) when I left the WMA after some early season deer scouting. I was going to stop and say hello, but didnt know if that was your vehicle or not. This was on Sunday...

Gary,

That wind will be howling again tom. and Fri. I may go out there Sat. Haven't checked to see if they are discharging or when they started but it does affect the fishing. nuts Can't stop them when some folks down the line needs the water badly.

I suspect that the WB that were at Welch have done their thing on the sandbars by now. There should be some but not like in weeks past. They will be schooling soon, if not already. Try the deep pocket off the point between the big point at Welch and the buoyed shoal. My guess is that the WB will be deeper now but they still chase shad and stuff up to the shoal and sandbars. If ya can get there early or late they will be near most sandbars and humps.

The point at Rocky Creek park from the boat ramp back around the point south for 500 yds. just inside the buoys should be good for trolling. The south/southeast sides of the Islands, and the hump near the Northernmost Island. That hump takes some practice to find but it is about 300-350 yds due east of the southernmost edge of that Island.

Watch for bird action. Good luck.

They put a new sand beach there about 3 yrs. ago on the south side near the water. Between the parked RVs and the store. The stretch of water from the point next to the store to the boat ramp can be very good at times. It is also a good wade fishing spot but can get crowded on any given wkend with people swimming now that the water temps are bearable to do so.

I'd bet an orange kayak that Welch will not produce like in weeks past. I'm sure it still holds fish but not in that quanity.

hello guys,

yes, the wind was blowing today, acording to wunderground was supposed to be 8-10 SE till 1:00 pm then 15 or so. it was 20 by 9:30am, enough bitchin, they are never right and i should have known better. we were looking for hybrids at the dam and welsh early [ DEEP 15FT TO 25FT.] NADA caught a few whites south of welsh submerged island in 7ft. fish were scattered. we then went to overlook and ended up with about 30 whites and 2 hybrids. bite stopped about 12:30 pm never did pick up again. the solunar tables said the next major was 3:oopm we had enough of the wind by then and packed it in. talked to a guy at the boat ramp [yegua] and they caught 75 whites 10" 11" at rocky creek, should have gone there i guess but i'm looking for hybrids. guess i will have to go to chicken livers lol. lots of boats coming in when we were leaving.it will be worse tomorrow with the holiday weekend. sorry this is such a long post hope it will help anyone who is going up there this weekend.

I was up the yegua on Saturday and again on Monday evening.. another story there too! I parked at the well head up from Newmans and took off through the woods at about 6:30 PM thinking I'd intercept the Yegua and make a big loop but I came out at Irwin bridge just before dark.. I decided to walk back to the car by the road instead of hiking back through the woods after dark. Good thing I got nephews to call.. Austin drove up from Bryan and met me at FM 1697 and CR 125 at about 9:15 PM.. sure glad to see him cause it was DARK and I still had 3 miles to go after covering more then 6 miles to that point! I'm getting too old to do that kind of stunt but it was exciting. If I had a flashlight I'd have gone back along the creek! You guys that hunt know what I'm talking about when I say the woods are very different after dark wink

Only 3.08ft below pool? That doesn't sound right....

It's correct but Lake Somerville is so shallow around most of the shoreline that even a two or three foot drop below pool exposes so much new ground that it seems like more. I have seen the lake go from 6 feet low to 10 foot above pool in a span of three weeks. When the Yegua floods it really floods!

Fished the Yegua again on Thursday and it's dropped another 6 to 10 inches but still flowing just a little. This time I went upstream from the trailway bridge. Caught a few little fish and Shot some neat stuff with my Canon wink video forthcoming.
