Went fishing with Capt Mike Williams out of Galveston on Thursday the 20th. I will not be back. We were supposed to take off @ 6:30 but because he did not have any lights on his boat we had to wait until after 7:00, but he made sure we were standing on the dock @ exactly 2:00pm. This is the first time I have ever been saltwater fishing and I was excited. I am an avid freshwater fisherman and I understand that the fish are not always biting. We got no instruction and his boat and equipment were outdated. He seemed like he did not want to be there. If someone pays me $450 I will sure try to show them a good time and act like I am excited to be out on the water. Maybe he is just burned out, too bad I had to find this out after I paid my money. It is not even the fish catching that I am upset about, because we did catch 3 little sand sharks and 2 redfish, it is the experiance as a whole. The guide fell asleep 2 or 3 times and when he wasn't sleeping he was on his cell phone arguing with his ex-wife. I would not recommend him to anyone. I usually dont do anything like this, but I would hate to see anyone else waste there money.
Yup!

I wish I would have asked. That is why I wanted to post and keep someone else from wasting their money. If anyone else knows a quaility guide in the Galveston area it would be appreciated greatly.

Thats sorry and dudes like that shouldnt be guiding. I am not a guide and might have been upset with a trip like that. First of all, he was a jerk and second of all, for what you paid, he should have been able to put you on fish. This time of the year is overly productive! Sorry for you bad trip and I am sure that everyone appreciates your post, maybe except for mike williams...lol By the way, how did the guide have time to sleep? He should have been working to put you guys on fish. If they are not in one hole, its time to move on to the next! Thanks for the report.

Yes- its the same sorry guide that always receives complaints. And I experienced one of his infamous "trips" that was a waste of time.
He makes time to sleeep- he curls up in the back corner and goes out.... and when hes awake- hes on the cell phone....with us he was on there trading stock all day!

Old Mike has not changed a bit since I fished with him years ago.He laid down in the front of the boat and went to sleep. Most people in the Houston area know his reputation and have nothing to do with him. There are many good guides though in the area.Every bay system seems like they have a Mike. I know one in Matagorda and another in P.O.

I think old mike is burn out on the guiding business. When other people are counting on your skill and knowledge you should do everything in your means to show them a good time, after all I had to work hard for the money to go on the trip why should he not have to work equally as hard to earn my money. I think he probaly needs to find another line of work, but I am sure he will have enough trips to keep money in his pocket because there will always be another sucker.

If his boat wasn't up to REQUIRED minimums you should file a complaint with both the state and the Coast Guard. There is no excuse for a professional not to have his/her equipment working correctly.

Abel - Welcome to TFF.. If it is burnout, MW has been burning for years. I don't think he gets a lot of repeat business. He was trading stocks on the phone on my trip 10 years ago. Sorry your first saltwater trip was not all that you hoped it would be. There is a lot of good info here, and there are a hell of lot of better guides out there. Good luck MO

I have not said anything about this till now. I can only imagin how bad it must be to fish with Mike since I have never fished with him but I can tell you that as a guide fishing the same waters as Mike it is a disaster. I have had a lot of trouble with Mike over the last 5 years and so have all of my guide friends down there.Mike has pulled up to my boat many times and accused me of following him and I guess he owns the North Jetty since it is rare that we can anchor up there without Mike coming by to see us.I have been fishing all my life and guiding full time for 12 years and I have never seen anyone act the way he does. I am glad to see that his customers see him for who he really is because when guides talk bad about other guides it does not mean as much as when his customers talk bad about him. By the way I guide out of Galveston in the month of August and I work very hard to put my customers on fish. If someone is looking for a good guide out of Galveston contact me , I know some of the best down there.
