Do you really think it cost Skeeter $55k to build a boat? 3% of 55k is $1650 say the motor is $15K, trailer $1200, electronics and wiring $5,000, hull, gel coat and jack plate $10k for a total of $32,850. Giving a margin of $22,000 left over. Even if they sell that boat for $45K there is still $10k left over for somebody? My 50 hour service was about $300, since you have done the research please give me your numbers so I can be corrected.

lets say there's 20k leftover its 3% month for each month the boat sits in your lot. Then there is a percentage you forgot when the boat sells that goes to skeeter. You have a salesman that gets a commission unless he works for free. Then there's the make ready guy who details it cleans it up and you know makes it ready. a dealer may make between 5-6 k when everythibg is said and done. With the economy the way it is banks are not really loaning money as freely as they was so your sales are down.A dealer can easily make 5-6k on a power head replacment a couple $300 50 hour services and a couple installs for the good ole power poles and he can do all that in a couple days with the right set up. And if your wondering how i know it's because i called skeeter and got the info when anchor closed after i finished the phone conversations for three days i figured hell no and was glad that ken started the skeeter dealership. Why do you think he only has one skeeter on the lot it's hard to get started and most definatly hard to keep going.

I have no doubt that being in the boat dealership business is tough, it definately has to be a love the job thing. Kinda like a tackle store owner, just can't be much profit in that. Maybe you are right, heck I don't own a boat dealership thats for sure but talking to my car service rep he said sales made the money and service was just a requirement they had to do to keep getting the cars. The lower the service rating, the less new cars they got. Anyways if Skeeter really charges 3% per month for inventory fees then that would in itself bankrupt most dealers! Freaking ridiculous 3%? I was there the other day and I think he had 4 or 5 boats that he said were new, in case you need an upgrade. I'm sure he'd like to sell you a new boat. You might even get to go to the front of the line when it breaks.

The only thing i can afford to upgrade from skeeter is my cap. And when they told me 3% a month on inventory i told them to go to he77. But i agree you have to have some sort of lov to do it. Guarantee its better than my job.
