At least a few were. Definitely a BIG disapointment this year!! It was like this 2 years ago, and then we got that rain at the right time, and they went nuts. Not so lucky this year. Low water, and no fresh spring rain kept the fish down this year. Did catch a few today, along with many nice gills. Crappie fishing has been real good way down river, towards the Brazos. Had a great time with my friend Greg. Can't beat the scenery and experience. Sorry no real good news to post, but still one of my favorite places to go. As we were driving home, we saw the tornado damage in Rio Vista. Looks like they had a real rough night Sunday. Trees snapped in half, houses damaged, sheds blown to pieces, debris everywhere, with power lines down. Not a good scene. Hope noone was hurt.

Wow the water is low there! I have been there almost every year religiously since I was about 13 or 14. But yeah no spring rain this year really hurt frown

Hey Russell,

Thanks so much for the post! Cody and I fished there, today, and we caught nice Redears, Bluegills, and 13 White Bass. The Largemouths are on their beds, so we left them alone, but that is where the large Redears are lurking. It was Cody's first time to fish the Nolan, and I canoed it back in high school, 25+ years ago, but I didn't fish it, then. We had a great time, successfully tested a new fly, and really enjoyed being the only two on the water!

Is all this excitement occurring at the Nolan River Park south of 174? I'll be out that way Thursday and would like to check this Nolan River deal out, time permitting.

Nice pics, Trout Bum. You should frame that first one.

here are two of my favorite shots from the nolan. the first one really is a color shot. just an early am foggy day. it is also the picture on our clubs business card.

the 2nd shot was hilarious. while posing for a pic, my friend threw his fly over his shoulder to get the line out of his way and the photo opp, he caught a sandie while holding one!!

I saw Fort Worth Fly Fishers and the Nolan sand bass mentioned in a fly fishing magazine I saw at the store today. It was a neat article and I thought it was great that the sand bass run in Texas was mentioned in the same magazine as trout and tarpon fishing.
