Good thing that people like myself that cant afford either a Power Pole or Talon dont have to worry about this decision!

If you look around there are plenty of used PPs for sale. It's good to see the quarterly Power pole vs. Talon debate. I have never used a power pole so I can not comment on it. Sort of like most have never used a Talon but still comment on it anyway. When I hear things like if you loose power you can't get it back up that tells me that person hasn't even come close to even seeing a Talon. Just going off what others say. I can tell you however that I do really like my Talon. Course if I listened to what everyone else says I wouldn't have a Talon mounted on a Nitro, pulled by a 6.0 Powerstroke . I'm happy with all of them.

Probably the thing that ultimately sold me on their durability was the Youtube video a guy posted a couple weeks back showing the PP on the airboat where they were TRYING to break it running the boat up on dry land repeatedly at speed. Pretty impressive.
Have not seen that video but I have been in the boat when the boat owner took off with the Power Pole still deployed and it caused the piston arm to be bent, therofore not allowing us to raise the unit. He had to get out of the boat and remove the power pole from the mount and lay in on the back deck in order for us to get back to the dock. Like I said earlier, there are and can be issues with both units. They are mechanical and anything mechanical can break.

I know I carry one on my boat with me due to the fact this is the way to get one up if you loose power.

If so do they make the Talon loose to the mount?

Dean Rojas has neither! He got a big ol' anchor. I have an anchor too, but not the right one.

If I want to remove mine I have to unbolt it from the main bracket. It only takes 4 bolts, pretty easy. The quick disconnect looks pretty cool though, no tools required.

90+ of 99 elite series pros have power poles. A few of the anglers have nothing, one angler has 1 talon...but that should tell you something. these are the best anglers in the world. They aren't going to play p*ssy games with their equipment. Not saying powerpoles are better, but it should tell you something. Even the guys who are sponsored by or promote minn-kota tms have powerpoles.

Yes it tells me Power Poles have been around a long time and Talons have not. Lets have this same conversation in a couple years when Talons are fully established. Everything has to start somewhere. Talons are still a very new product.

One advantage of the power pole is to keep your engine out of bad situations, at least for me. On my last boat with a power pole if i got into a bad situation I would lower the pole down to where it was past my engine and let it hit somethiing before the engine did. Saved me a lot of scratches ont he cowling.

my talon is a little lower than my 225 HPDI when the motor is trimmed up on my trailer for trailering. it backs in my garage with no problems. i've had mine for about 2 months. none of the new mounting hardware has loosened, but i still check them just as i do the rest of the boat. it was also the easiest to install addition that i have ever made to any of my boats.
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

Just installed one & love it. You can mount it in about an hour with no problem.
Need (want)another one so if any one has a 8' they want to sell let me know.
