I am assuming that a fish truck brought them to the co-op, but I am not sure. They have a big tank that had a lot of tilapia in them. They went up this year on price, but they are the closest place to get them for me and I would have spent more time and gas money going anywhere else.

I had a bad algae problem early on this year and took the risk of early Tilapia stocking March 13th. Yesterday not a speck of algae to be found. True Mozmbique Tilapia from Overton Fisheries. Twenty pounds stocked in the 2-acre pond and 6 pounds all male tilapia in the acre pond. Do you happen to have any more pics of the lil boogers cleaning out your pond? I would love to see how fast they work

As mentioned above I took a huge risk in Mid March for early tilapia stocking and apparently had good survival despite some early cold spells - I DO NOT recommend this procedure unless the pond owner is well advised as to the risk of early stocking. Had really bad algae problem and this week our pond is slick as a whistle - even before the hard rain with this weeks storms. Meadowlark deserves credit from me as well as others on the advantages of tilapia stocking for supplemental forage and algae control. I followed his advice the following year of his first stocking. Many doubters expressed negative comments at the time but as a result of his early work the usage of tilapia in Texas farm ponds has been a HUGE success story. Photo below is the only one I could find showing the current clean pond bank. Aquatic vegetation on far bank is water primrose - a big problem at this time since I don't us chemicals. Well I'm just south of Terrell so where is this place in RC? Shoot me a PM. Thanks Mike
