I read an article a couple of years ago that said that the ford F-150 with a V-6 and the towing package did a better job than the 4.6L. I know when I had my Expedition with a 4.6, it was a pig when it came to towing. That said, my 6.7 Cummins doesn't even know my BassCat is back there.

The engine handled it much better then the chasis. Back in them days the expedition was the most squiriley and dangerous tow vehicle around with many towing accidents!!!! As far as the V6 tow vehicle de

The Expedition was never offered with a v6 and only from 97 to 04 was the 4.6L an option. The 05 and up has the 5.4L only. Did you mean the Explorer?

I tow a 21' Legend with a half ton chevy and it does ok with a small V8 "4.8L" but it does bounce me around alot, thinking about some overload springs. I definitely wish I had a limited slip for pulling it out of the water sometimes.

I think you mean Explorer. They now have a 5000 lb capacity but there was a time when they had the small receiver and a much lower capacity. When they went IRS is when the problems started.

I'd not use a Toyota Tacoma V-6 to regularly pull a 20' bassboat as that is what I'm stuck with until I trade up.

Tacoma is fine on pulling power as I can pass others at speed.

It is fine being well within the towing capacity weight limits and my transmission is holding up so far at over 80,000.

It is not OK on safety as the tail is close to wagging the dog at speeds over 65 no matter how carefully the height/weights are optimized.

It is not OK on gas milage as the mileage goes from 20MPG down to 10MPG whenever pulling the boat.

The problems with the Tacomas is at some point Toyota went to a lighter 3 leaf spring. I know the 08s had them I believe the 07s also. This is all because of the sissy's that wanted a softer ride. I say if that is the case then buy a Camry. I had my springs replaced under a TSB at no charge. The truck rides much better, tows better, and is better off road. The tow height is a good 1" higher now with a 3000 lb trailer. I have no handling issues at any speed that want to tow at.
