So I went to Arrowhead damn with a buddy to do some crappie fishing instead i caught this

unfortunately I have never caught one before so i don't have a clue to what it is, i think it is a hybrid or a sand bass. Since I didn't know what it was or legal limit or if it was yummy I had to toss it back.

No crappie to report but that was probably due to the school of gar that where swimming around for a hr and half eating shad. Was pretty amazing watching them and fishing for em, caught that fish in the middle of them with a shad colored rattlin trap. I'm almost 100% sure they where gar, I managed to hook one, it ran my drag out super fast, bent my Med Heavy 7 foot ugly stick in half and then snapped the line. Was only using 10 pound test, the one day I leave my bait caster home with the 30+ lb test on it is the day I wish I had it most. Fun fun day at least, those gar where very cool to watch.

Well. I didnt want to speak too soon but the old man has caught crappie at the third bridge in shallow water for the past two days. He was fishing with minnows and had the cork set just above the crappie rig. Yall go get some and let me know how you do. Good luck!

This day may be your last on this earth. Spend it fishing!

Didn't have too much luck out at Buffalo today. Caught a small catfish on a jig out by where the creek comes into the lake and me and my buddy caught 5 or 6 small (tiny) crappie on the dam. A guy down from me caught 3 good sized crappie on some type of jig. Didn't ask him what color. I used everything I could think of today. Just wasn't our day haha!

Probably heading to arrowhead in the a.m.

Looks like a sandbass to me and I bet that was what was tearing up the shad too.

We love sand bass. It is a lil mushy, not as flaky as crappie but good!!! 10" is the legal size and 25 can be kept

Well we went to petrolia last night but it was too windy we didn't even throw a hook in the water, so we went to the state park on the pier!! We got there about 9 and we seen a few big ones pulled in. One guy pulled in a 16" crappie. Big ole sucker!!! As we got thre the bite was ending I think cuz we only caught 1 6" crappie, 6" sandie, and a 6" drum. But atleast we wernt skunked after about 30 of being there the bite was off!!! No one was cat hing anything!!

Headed to th metrople. Today!!! Got a guided bow fishing trip tonight!! Hope those gar and carp a still boing tonight!! Can't wait!!!

Sand bass is good eating, but make sure you cut out the red strip in the middle of the filet. Otherwise it will taste really strong. The dogs love the red strip, too.

Got off to a little bit of a late start this morning at the Henrietta Bridge at Arrowhead so we weren't expecting the greatest of results, but as soon as we got there we caught two good sized crappie. I was starting to think we finally timed it right, but after a couple more hours our total was still at two! Seems like they are moving in slowly but they are coming.

The red stripe is the best part! Went to the third bridge this morning. I couldn't have had a worse morning of fishing. Didn't catch a single keeper but my two fishin buddies took home 7 or 8 each.
