My fishing buddy has always been my wife. But, ever since she had her operation(both wrists), it's kinda boring for her. Plus, she has become VERY active in her quilting circles(even teaches a few classes). And, I do not like to fish with a stranger. So, I've learned to enjoy fishing by myself. The problem is that I like to stay 2 or 3 days, and in order to do that I need someone to drive my 4x4 GMC Envoy. I tow the boat with the motorhome. I'm really tired of one-day trips to Canyon Lake. I need to expand my horizons. To top it all off, I need to replace the cooling unit in motorhome's refrigerator. I installed a new one, and it's defective. I went fishing yesterday, at Canyon. I've never worked so hard to catch 4 dinks and 3 keepers. I gotta go to Choke Canyon,....at least. Monday looks good. If it weren't for the gators I would tent camp. Dilema.....

I enjoy both. Fun fishing = trip with Friends. When I have serious prefishing to do I go alone. I can move when I want, no one sitting there to gripe about the cold/heat, no one to step over, ect.
As I get older most of my fishing partners have kids and can't go at the drop of a hat. It doens't stop me from going!

One day trips I don't care if it's me or myself and someone else. More then 1 day I prefer to have a back seater. Good to talk to.
There are times I prefer to be alone. I can fish a bank different then I do with someone on my boat. I can fish deep and not worry about if the back seater is bored or not. I need to get better at fishing deep so I plan on doing some trips alone this year. That or the back seater will need to learn to deep fish too!

I'm retired and can go whenever I want, so I fish alone 80-90% of the time and prefer it that way. I wear an auto inflatable PFD every minute on the water and have my cell phone with me, along with the phone numbers of the lake management office, the police, and a fishing buddy I can call. I also call my wife during the outing to let her know I'm all right. As others have said, the advantages are solitude, scheduling, lack of worry about others catching fish, boat positioning, and fishing how I want to.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I fish alone most of the time, when someone else is in my boat I realy enjoy the company & probably dont fish as well as I could, although sometimes the reverse is true...either way I love to be on the water

Out 166 fishing trips the last 3+ years, my son has been with me every one except one. That was when his mother and I were fishing a couples tournament. We fish together so much its just like being alone. We fish tournaments, weekends, and weekdays after work and school. He's only 10 now but I can't imagine how its going to be in the future when he starts breaking out on his own. His mother and sister go alot with us now. I don't like fishing alone at all but I do like fishing with someone I'm comfortable with. That's a short list.

I too fish alone most of the time and I think there's a few reasons why: 1) The older I've gotten, the less patient I've become and more set in my ways. I like to fish all day and most of my freinds want to go for a couple of hours so I would rather leave them at home instead of listening to them complain or sit in the boat.
2) I have less time to make new freinds that would like to fish all day because I'm usually at the lake fishing all day.
3) I found that having too many friends that like to fish leads to decisions on who to take. The only decision I want to make is where am I going to fish?
4) And the last and most important- I seem to catch many more and bigger fish when I'm by myself than with other people or at least there's no witnesses to say I didn't!

I have been fishing by myself probably 90% of the time the past few years. Now that my kids are getting to the perfect age to go fishing, we are going together more and more so I hope I won't be fishing alone much more. I enjoy fishing both ways though, with or without someone in the boat. When I fish alone, I can spend the day as I please, experimenting with baits or new areas on the lake, scouting, idling, whatever, sometimes not as concerned about the number of fish I catch but rather just trying to learn something new. When I have someone in the boat with me, I feel more obligated to try and put them on fish rather than exploring new areas of the lake so I tend to fish areas I'm really comfortable with and know hold fish. I had a fishing partner for 6-7 years who fished all tournaments with me and also fished pretty much anytime I took the boat out. That was fun too but he decided golf was more fun I guess.

Being a firefighter I have a lot of time off during the weekdays so I go solo quite a bit. I love being on Fork on a Tuesday or Wednesday by myself. I can fish how I want and when i want. I enjoy fishing solo. I do enjoy company as well sometimes so I am fine with either way I guess.

I find myself fishing things like I want to rather than having to position the boat where someone else can cast.
I always tend to do better either fishing by myself or with my BIL where we have a "fend for yourself if you're in the back" policy.
Basically it leads to us casting wherever the heck we want from the back even if it's in front of the person in front.
