I generally use a smoke color but have seen many use the high vis 'highlighted' yellow color. What type of line is that and does stay visible in the water?

several companies manufacture it. Mr crappie, viscious, P-line CX hi-vis, etc. I dont know how visible it stays under the water, but the fish dont seem to care.

I always use high vis line. Many times all you see is your line moving sideways. It's hard to detect when fishing with smoke colored line. Unless the water is gin clear the fish don't care.

I use sufix 8LB in the tangerine orange, i see it better than the hi viz yellow. but these guys are right it does help you see more bites when the fish are biting soft.

I don't use it but my dad did... It was too difficult for him to see the other stuff. And he caught plenty fish.

I'm going to give it a shot then. I use the suffix smoke as I mentioned before. Not going to say I miss many opportunities to set the hook hammer but I suppose I could improve on the opportunities I have. LOL bolt

Equinox,
Take a look at the lime green Fireline braided fused or the floro blue Stren braided fused. You can see both of these with no trouble, and you never have to change your line until you break all of it off your reel. And it has 'no' stretch. I've been using the 8# for about three years now. Great stuff and never has any cruls or kinks.

Berkely Fireline Fused for me in Lime Green for 2 years in 10lb. Good Stuff. Fades to white over time but still highly visible and super sensitive. In clear water you can add a 2' clear fluoro leader. Awesome set-up. (Thanks Guy)

I like the sound of the Fireline. I have never used fireline and if it has that type of retention to it, I will for sure give it a try. That is one of those sore spots with me when it comes to the line I use now. I have to change every third trip or so due to the kinks and curls. Thanks for the tips.

If you aren't using braided line. The sufix siege in the tangerine color from ProAngler is some sweet line. I have been really impressed with the lack of memory and smoothness of this line!! Give it a shot.

Obviously it varies from on part of the US to another. I have found that the crappie around my parts are extremely line shy and have to use clear. If i am fishing for pleasure i use 4lb If i am fishing others i go heavier. I personally don't use a leader on any of my setups However i use a snap swivel on all my setups except for crappie which goes back to the visability thing.

I use braid now with a fluro leader. The 10# Power Pro in high vis yellow is awesome and it has no stretch. I don't think the high vis line really matters unless you are in really clear water but I like tying on the leader so I can retie quicker and break off when need to. Knock on wood, I haven't lost a fish yet due to the leader knot breaking from the braid. Allan showed me a great leader knot that's really strong.

Earnest says he uses nothing but Mr. Crappie high vis yellow. I don't argue - he catches a lot more than I even dream about!
