Beautiful. I know some of those formations. Oh, btw, those goats, the ones where the horns sort of twist and go outward are know as Texas Dall and the other darker ones are known as Corsicans, or some sort of Corsican/Mouflan crossbreed and ah, they are members of the sheep family. Should be able to see some Auodad on the east side of the river once in awhile when you get below Patford Crossing where the cable runs across the river.
Had no idea the smallies got that big in there. Again, beautiful pics and great story.

If that doesn't make you want to go fishing then you must be dead! Great report!

The formation in the 3rd and 4th pics below the tent pic in your original post is at the end of Slaughter Bend. I know that because I used to take care of the ranch that is on Slaughter Bend.
We did a heliocopter wild life survey and there were more Corsicans on that ranch than whitetailed deer. They are not real beneficial to the native wildlife because they are both browsers and grazers. Deer just basically browse so they lose the groceries battle in times of drought.
All those critters migrate up and down the river pretty much at will because there are almost no fences in areas where the river actually has banks due to the floods that happen periodically.
Not trying to derail, just hoping to add a little for ya.

Cool river! Did ya'll encounter any other human species on that trip? LOL! The Homosapiens were a little scarce at times. Saw a few Boat Bow T-Backs and a Texas Doll or two. They were drinking and roaming the river in places. No fences ya know.
