You just have to love the desciptions of some of these boats.

The last one list two boat chairs, that in the picture are actually two folding lawn chairs.

The houseboat has never been registered and they tell you to either use it on a private lake or call it "home built". Yep, I'm sure there will be no questions asked when you tell the registration lady that you bult a $70k boat and goose neck trailer in your garage over the weekend...

I do like Bass Bug's little center console boat. It is cool how it comes with its own little bitty floating boat house with a matching paint job, but the gass bill to keep that boat house moving might be a little out of my price range...

Robin, that's not exactly a 37' motor-sailer there. smile

Aren't Hobie 'Cats a bit tippy on purpose?

I did see a pretty cool project on the tin boats forum a couple of weeks ago where a guy bought some used 24' pontoons and made himself two 12' pontoon boats out of them.

Rex, the optimism on Craigslist knows no bounds. I really like when they take a worn out early 70s runabout and, using sheetrock screws, attach a pedestal seat and a trolling motor to the front. It is now a "fishing boat". smile

I was tempted by the boat Mike posted, but I'm afraid the color scheme would look dated in a couple of years. Then you gotta buy a whole new boat.

I just remembered my Craigslist Translation Essay from last year that was in this thread:

http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...et_#Post5226536

I humbly submit the following as a lighthearted look at the way ads are frequently written on Craigslist.

Firstly, using drywall screws to haphazardly mount a trolling motor on your '63 model cabin cruiser a "fishing boat" does not make. Even if you find some old plywood and bolt that old pedestal boat seat to it and then lay that over the upholstery in the front of your ski boat, you're still not there. It is also not a "fish and ski".

For the love of someone's God, please learn the proper usage of the words sale, sell, and sail. If you had something wind-powered then maybe it would be a "must sail", however if you really need the money neither that phrase or the ever popular "must sale" are correct.

When listing a boat for sale (no, not "for sell") that has a price tag of several thousand dollars, please have the common courtesy to remove the boat's cover before taking your blurry, pixelated cell phone picture. We might want to know at least what color the boat is before we send our Nigerian Express Traveller's Check (don't leave your royal kingdom's millions of dollars behind without it) to you.

Speaking of pictures, you might want to wait until daylight, or at least drive somewhere with a lighted parking lot before taking your pictures. I know your "old lady seyz it got to go", but maybe by tomorrow she'll change her mind. Think of all those times she called the cops on you and then begged them not to take you away when they showed up.

Also, please do not use pictures of aforementioned "old lady" in her bikini in the boat as a marketing ploy. The demographic that is going to respond to that kind of gimmick isn't your target group. Trust me.

Some common phrases translated from Craigspeak into English:

"Barely takes on any water" - A lead sieve tied to an anchor would float longer than this boat.

"Soft spot in floor recently repaired" - When we found out how much the rotten transom was going to cost, we decided to sell it to some unsuspecting sot on Craigslist instead.

"Needs some TLC" - Will require only slightly less effort to repair than finding, retrieving, and refurbishing a dingy off of the Titanic.

"No title, but you don't need one for [insert style of watercraft here]" - Someone sold me this thing with this exact same line of bull so now I feel justified to turn around and let you stand in line at TPWD for a cumulative month in a vain effort to register it legally.

"Similar boats have sold on Craigslist in the last few weeks for lots of money." - This is a truthful statement, when you convert the dollar value to late-WWII era Deutschmarks.

Finally, my favorite ad snippet from the last couple of weeks: "$2,500 firm. Will negotiate". smile

It would have to be on a night when I'm in the panhandle too. Of course it might be one of those "I'll meet you down across the tracks at 1AM to make the deal" deals too. smile

Original listings deleted . . . which robs our thread of context. (We should've seized the photos as evidence and tinypic'd 'em in perpetuity.)

At least we have The Best of Craigslist.
