Question for yall. Why the rocks for the crappie? Take Buffalo for instance why not any of the shallow points with brush is that not a good spawning place? Just wondering. Thanks yall

I think it has to do with the floor of the lake. Rocky bottoms and stony bottoms are better then bottoms that are muddy or sandy. I think they don't make the best spawning grounds compared to a rocky bottom.

as the water warms up the fish will move closer to the surface and eventually reach those areas that are only 8 inches deep, for now they are deeper so just so happens that these are the only areas that one can bankfish and get to the depth they're at. Also when they are at the top 10 inches (for example) of the water column, they will be at the steep side of the rocky dam but near the surface.

The Crappie we caught friday were at 6 feet, but remember that it always changes because of water temp and cold fronts that will drive them deeper. People will say they stopped biting because a front came through, but the weather actually made them go to a deeper depth which is also further from the bank where we are.

If it happens to be around February, they will be at around 25 to 15 feet deep, so in turn the only way to get at them would be third bridge (about 17 feet) with a slip bobber at the depth that you find them at (usually the bottom), hope this helps.

Been stuck in DFW since Tuesday for work and won't be back till tomorrow evening. Been following this thread hoping to read some good reports on arrowhead so I could do some fishing this weekend but it looks like the bite is still slow.
Wonder if not getting any rain for so long is affecting the spawn?? Sounds dumb but I thought the spawn would hit us by now with all of the warm weather we've been getting.

Me and my son were at buffalo in the boat. We planned on setting juglines but could not find any shad on the graph, after throwing the cast net about 30 times we gave since we also couldn't locate any blues on the graph. Before we left we figured we would see if the crappie were shallow yet and that's when we found the shad and the blues, all along the dam about 50 feet out. Too late and my net wouldve gotten messed up.

I just got back from Arrowhead with me my uncle and my dad and we went to the dam first and caught 9 then went down to Henrietta Bridge for about 15 minutes and got 1 nibble then we went to a point on bunny run and caught the 3 biggest ones of the day. Most were females but not up close to the rocks yet. They had some eggs on them ready to hatch in about 1 week! I just dont get it though because the males arent even up shallow in the rocks making the nests yet and the females are getting ready to lay their eggs! The males better get to work on making those nests or the females wont have anywhere to lay their eggs! I am planning on going to Henrietta Bridge Sunday if the weather isnt too bad. Did anybody else have any luck at Arrowhead?

went to Shoshoone park and drift fished for cats on the way out to arrowhead, in my kayak, but didn't snag anything. Did manage to find a few LMB around the mouth of the river on plastic worms flipping it into the tall weeds and downed trees.
