If you really serious about catching fishes and not worry about finding a bank fishing spot you should really consider buying kayak.I heard they were catching them at the 61st fishing pier you might want to try there,just have to put up with the crowds.The rock groin along the Galveston beach front also will produce if water condition is right.Wading is also and option,just watch out for man-o-war jelly fish.I saw alot of them floating around.All of these areas also depend on good water clarity if Spanish smacks you're after.Early morning and late evening is when the feeding frenzy's starts.Another option is to go to cabelas and order some carbide tips shoes or sandals and walk the galveston jetty on a calm day.Do not atempt to go out there without cleated shoes,you will get hurt.

My son wants to get into wade fishing in the bay system. What do y'all sagest I get him so he can get started : Rod, reel, type of line and any other gear ... i.e. flats boots ect
