Putting feelers out for a partner (me and one other person) to go on a week long Canadian fishing trip. Right now I am thinking:
1. We would fly to Minneapolis on Saturday morning May 28, pick up a rental car (I have got a minivan already reserved with a really great weekly rate) around 1 PM, stop in a Walmart on the way up for food and things, and be at the resort/cabin in Nestor Falls, Ontario on Sabaskong Bay on Lake of the Woods by about 7 PM Saturday and fish all day Sunday through Friday night. Species in the lake are smallmouth, large mouth, walleye, crappie, northern pike, muskie, perch, and others (no lake trout). 2. We would drive back to MSP Saturday morning and be back in Texas by Saturday night, June 4. 3. The rental boat is fully floored with front trolling motor, livewells, a depth finder and a 50HP 4 stroke and you don't find many rental boats up there with these features.
Your share of expenses would be airfare (which is cheap right now). $350 for your share of the cabin fees, $325 for your share of the rental boat, $200 for rental car, plus fuel and tax and additional food.
If you have been up that way before and can afford it and have the time, I will not have to talk you into it. If you haven't been up there, go once and you will be hooked for life. The week I have selected should be a very good late spring/early summer pattern.
I am also considering driving up with my boat from Plano as an option.
There are too many other details to list here. If you have an interest, leave your contact information and I will contact you.

Man, that is tempting! Drive/trailer the boat only if you're going for more than a week. We use to drive/trailer from Charleston, WV to Eagle Lake, Ontario for 10 days of pure muskie hunting. We could drive it straight thru (stopping only for eats/gas) in 26 hours from Labor Day to the middle of September when the 'ski's were transitioning from weeds to rock.
Mighty tempting, though.

That sounds awesome! Just too much going on this spring for me. My old man makes about four trips up there a year from Omaha, one of them on hard water. He's caught some enormous muskies. I've been up there with him once and got a 17lb musky among others, which is a minnow compared to some of the pictures I've seen of him with fish. You can get into the smallies like crazy too. Every one of them 3 lb's and full of fight!

Fly to Winnepeg instead.Call Haleys Camps. They will pick you up and take you to the English River System north of Kanora,You will fly in to a wonderful lodge by float plane. Its a little more money but worth every penny. The farther north you are the dumber the fish. Its a blast. Check it out. I have done the Minneapolis trip. Its good too.But the trip to the English River system can not be beat.

I love Sabaskong Bay. What resort are you staying at?

Really nice muskie!
I am planning on staying at Red Deer Lodge or C & C Motel right on the highway where I normally stay. Nestor Falls and Lake of the Woods are simply beautiful and the fishing is fantastic.
I forgot to add northern pike to the species in the water up there.

We always stayed at Youngs Wilderness Camp on Stevens Bay, real close to Red Deer.
What are your favorite areas for Muskie? We had good luck on Raspberry islands (I think thats it) and up in Burrow Bay too. And I know In-Fisherman film shows in Stony Portage.

Maybe a later week in June would work better. Let me know.

I've heard about those trips up there from my uncle, but I haven't had the time or resources to make it yet.. I hope you have a blast.

redfin, I do the same thing, drive from Mckinney to Eagle Lake Ontario. The long drive is worth it. Pulling a boat that distance is crazy, but worth it.
For those who have not been to Canada to fish for Pike, Walleye, Musky or smallmouth, you are missing out. It is an incredible adventure. Scenary is amazing and plenty of wildlife. Well worth the money and catching a monster fish is just icing on the cake. Too bad I am sitting out this year, I would consider going!!
