I realize this should go in the towing vehicles section, but I feel like way more people would see it here, and it pertains to bass fishing so give me a break.
Went to pull my boat for the first time with the new truck. Hadn't bought a trailer hitch yet, but no biggie because I always just keep one with the boat in case I forget. Went to hook up and realized the receiver on the new 2011 F250 is for a 3" or 3-1/2" hitch instead of the standard 2". Had to go buy a sleeve from Ford to adapt it down to a 2" receiver. Fortunately we had my buddy's pickup and it didn't ruin a day of fishing. Just a little beware for those with a new pickup who haven't yet picked up a hitch.
On a side note, question for you fellow 2011 f250 owners. My 2011 6.7 is short bed crew cab - manual says it has a 26 gallon tank. Dealer says it should have a 26 gallon tank, and all internet searches have said 26 gallon tank. However, all computer and fuel gauges indicate it has more like a 21 or 22 gallon tank. For exmaple, there have been times when the gauge (not computer readout, but actual needle gauge) has been on or slightly below red line E and the computer will say 20 miles to empty, but the most I've ever put in is 20 gallons. Every time I've filled up, the amount I've put in (from gas pump gauge) has matched the amount my computer says I have used. Most difference I've seen has been about .2 gallons between what the truck says I've used and amount I've put in to fill. The dealer has the truck now and is just as puzzled about this as I am. Anyone else experience this issue? I'm wondering if there is a possibility they put the wrong tank in or if this is just a computer issue.

My Chevy Duramax had one of those peanut sized fuel tanks on it too. Supposed to be 26 (or something like that), but like you about 20 - 22 gallons was all I could ever squeeze in it. I bought a 52 gallon Titan replacement tank and love it.

I thought about that. I asked the same question of a guy on the Ford truck forums and he said he put 25 gallons in it. I dunno what to think, especially since all the paperwork shows it to be 26.

I was told and could be completely wrong, but the tank is acutally 26 gallons, but the computer and gauge makes you think its a 22 gallon tank so that it keeps 4 gallons in reserve so people don't run thier diesels out of fuel. At least that's what a mechanic told me about my Duramax.

oh really? Good point. Now I need to decide if I have the balls to see if you're right. Haha.

Look around in your truck and see if they gave you a hitch adapter for a 2" receiver. I have a 2011 GMC 2500 and there was a 2" receiver in the truck.

One thing is for sure. The price per gallon ain't no joke.
Nice truck by the way.

I have a 2011 also. The most I think I have ever put in was a little shy of 23 gallons. Mine said I had 9 miles to empty. Was sweating it I might add. What is your average mpg?

I just got a new Tundra and it does the same thing. Says they only come with one sized fuel tank and that is 26 gallons. I drove it the other day until it said 1 mile til empty and filled it up. 20 gallons. That's all I've ever gotten into it.

I've always been skeptical about the computer fuel remaining readout, but my wife op checked it on her 2009 Ford Flex. She discovered the hard way that it was right on. Doh!

I think you mean 2.5 inch instead of the 3.5 inch in your post. I had to special order one since nobody had a 2.5 inch in stock. I have put as much as 25 gallons in my truck, 2011 F250 KR diesel. I think the computer was telling me it had about 10 miles left to empty.

My 02' F-150 has a 26 gallon tank. I will drive it on low fuel for 20 miles and when I fill her up she will only hold 22 gallons max. Weird deal.

My wife is a Pro at knowing exactly how far she can go when the low fuel light comes on. If you drive a GM just ask her which store you can get to and back home when the light comes on. Heck for that matter, if there is anything else you need to know about anything, shoot me PM and I will ask her, she knows everything.
