How much room does a 20' seine net take up on a yak, Steve? I use a cast net in the eddies (near any rapids), and in the creeks (tricky).

yup - you got me on that
I run a big canoe - it's like the winnebago of the manned boats.
Some days, I swear I got a foundry packed in, or maybe a Singer Sewing Machine, or I dunno, a cracked dodge v8 318 vintage: 1977. That's whats bad a about the bigger canoe, you never have to clear it out.
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

if you have a fine mesh cast net you can see the minnows in the shallows and lead them with your throw net. ive done it lots of times in the brazos. river minnows work well but if you know where to look shad is also great bait.

yeah your seine net worked great. You still planning on goign on the trip next month? yup - I've over nighted there before - I want a water filter, and I am good to go. and screw cooking, and screw iced anything, men, just eat power bars and cr*p and tepid water for three days. Pack light ! Yep, ice chests typically stay home for us on overnighters. Katadyne water filter with powder flavoring, Back Packers Pantry or Mountain House dehydrated meals, power bars, canned tuna, and a flask of crown...
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I like my bourbon on ice with coke zero. We being the ice in my friends canoe and we pack two bags along with a block of dry ice. It lasts for 2-3 days easy. I also bring mountain house and will be bringing a katadyn filter

Throw out Cheerios, wait until the water starts to boil, then use the cast net. Use it everytime when I'm there. You need a really fast sinking net to get the shad. They aren't sold around here. Small hook- corn/hot dog/bacon catch bluegill, works great for stripers, not as good as gizzard shad though.

You can always buy some Goldfish from the store. They work great. Only problem is they dont stay alive long on the line.
