Do the more expensive glasses protect your eyes from long-term damage anymore than 20 dollar Berkley Polarized that are 100% UVA and polarized? Probably not. Assuming the less expensive pair has similar UV coatings as the higher end glasses. The main difference is the cost of the lens (materials and manufacturing process). The glass lens will be the most expensive, then polycarbonate, the plastic. While ordinary tinted lenses reduce brightness, only polarized lenses eliminate glare. polarization is achieved by placing a thin sheet of polarized film between two layers of material. The three most important factors in grading a polarized lens are: (a) clarity of the polarized film: inferior polarized lenses have a hazy film. (b) density of the polarized film: lenses that possess a light film will not perform as well as lenses that utilize a dark film. (c) film placement: in order to achieve a cosmetically appealing thin pair of eyeglasses, the laboratory must be able to know, with certainty, exactly where the polarized film is placed in relationship to the front of the lens. Personally, I use the less expensive versions now. If I were going to get a "high end" pair I would get polycarbonate instead of glass. Polycarbonate lens will not break. However, they scratch very easily so they need a good scratch resistant coating. I would rather not have on glass lenses on if I have tungsten weight come flying back and hit me in the glasses. Plus, if you drop them they are like going to scratch or break. I worked in an optical laboratory for many years that made prescription eye glasses. I used to make my own polarized sunglasses for free. However, when I saw how high the mark up was I decided to buy the less expensive brands once I had to actually buy my own.

I puchased Costas at Bass Pro several years ago. I wear them on every fishing trip. But i wear $15 glasses to drive. I do not want to lose me good Costas. I would like to try and buy the Costas 580.

Ive asked a similar question a month or two ago, both on TFF and Professional Anglers.
But I decided that if I had $200 to spend on fishing gear, it would be on a new Curado, a guided trip (to learn more on Bass fishing), and not something like sunglasses.
I have 2 sets of $25 dollar glasses with me that work fine. Both of which were bought at Academy.

I have owned Raybans, Costa's, Revo's, Oakley's, and Maui Jims. They are all great glasses. Rayban's, Oakley's, and Revo's are all made by the same company. (luxottica) In my experience out of these brands Costa's and Oakley's are the cheapest quality. Neither pair lasted me very long, though the Costa's did have a great amber lense to them. Rayban's are good with a little better style to them. The top two from my experience is the Revo's and the Maui Jim's. The Maui's have a darker tint to them but none can compare to the clarity of the Revo's. You will pay more for them but for overall quality, clarity, polerazation, style, the Revo's are my number one choice.

Here is my advice and I have owned several different pairs - I will list the blades I have owned : Maui Jims, Costa's, and currently Oakleys, and Strike Kings.
If you have $200.00 to spend go with the Oakleys Flak Jackets I like them better than any other pair I have owned. If you are on a budget and would rather spend $175 on a rod and $25 on Blades go with the Strike Kings - I think the polarizations is excellent, they look nice, the only draw back to them is they are heavier than my Oakley's.
Depends on what you want - but if you are looking for a budget pair Stike Kings all the way, and if you are looking to spend more money buy the Oakley's.
Just my .02

I did'nt know Oakley's & Costa's made prescription glasses? I've had both and they're great. Prescription Oakley Flak Jackets are on my wish list at the moment.

I have a pair of G-Money Revos, and they're great glasses. But I still wear Costa 580 Green Mirror over Amber lenses for fishing. I have several nice pair of Oakley as well, but prefer the 580 glass overall. And I prefer the Costa Corbina frame for fishing. I like the Fathoms for every day use, and the Wave Killers for the few times I'm offshore, each year.

Look at NUMA Sport Optics, Highest quality lenses and they are interchangeable, you get 3 sets of lenses when you purchase them. They are also impact, shatter, and scratxh resistant. Look them up on their web site and they have models to fit just about anyones needs with styles of frames. They are also very competative in price around 100 dollars, super light weight and very comfortable. Let me know if you are interested and have any further questions No matter which pair you choose, take any advice you get from someone who has the product they are pushing in their sig with a grain of salt.

Oakley flak jackets are the best hands down. For starters you can buy numerous different lenses for them that simply snap in and out of the frames. If you scratch a lens you can buy the replacement lens and not have to buy a whole new pair. Oakley also makes a fishing specific polarized lense for the flak jackets that are designed to let in more light from certain colors desirable by fishermen. The flak jackets have one of the lightest/strongest frames I have ever seen for all day comfort. Make sure you get the XLJ lens as it provides greater coverage of the eye. The flak jacket also offers a few different size replaceable nose pieces to customize the fit. Wow, I just realized I am not employed by Oakley but maybe should be. Good luck in the search!

I have a pair of Costa 580 and a pair of Oakley's. They are both great glasses, dont really prefer one over the other one.
A wise old fisherman once told me when I asked about buying a cheap pair of glasses to use, he said "son, you have a $40,000 dollar boat, 15 rod and reels at $400 a piece, $5000 dollars worth of tackle and a $45,000 truck pulling it all, and you are gonna gripe about buying a nice pair of glasses that protects your whole outlook on life, you have got to be kidding me"
Now he had no Idea what I paid for any equipment, truck or boat, which I did not pay close to all of that, But, he did make his point very well.
If you can afford it, get a good pair that fits you.And dont look back.
