Even on Lake Fork the stat I heard that surprised me.

40,000 man hours of fishing per 10 lb bass caught.

And that stat was back in the prime of Fork.

Caught my first one (11.2) at Cooper in 97 and at least 1 and as many as 4 in a year until 2008. I've not boated one the last 2 years and have not come close yet in 2011. I live at Lake Fork which means the opportunity is there every time I go.

I hear a lot of comments about people needing to see pictures before they believe the weight people claim for fish. I can understand that if someone caught a 5lb fish, took a picture and claimed it was 10+. I just don't see that happen. I also don't see people on here looking a the picture of a fish and telling if it was 9 1/2 or 10lbs. Photos don't necessarily lie but they can very easily distort things.

I have 2 over 11 that were weighed on certified scales, one that was over 10 and weighed on tournament scales. I have two more that weighed over 11 on hand held scales. I believe those scales to be very accurate and have no qualms at all in telling people that I have 5 over 10 even tho not all were on certified scales. If they choose not to believe me, no problem. I know they were all over 10 and that is what matters. If (when) I get another over 10 she would really have to be a monster for me to try to get her to certified scales. I would rather weigh her on my scales and let her go.

I really don't think it has to do as much with lying as it does audience or medium. I agree 9% nationwide is a "no way." Probably much closer to the 4%, if that, that NoWeighers referred to. For the TFF, I would doubt that 500+ of it's members have caught a LMB over 10 lbs. But I would also doubt that 54% of the 169 people who responded to the poll are liars. And would think the same of a similar California-based forum.

Yes, fishermen have a habit of exaggerating. We've all seen photos of "7,8,9,10 pound+" bass that were pounds lighter. But seriously, how many blatantly bs photos of big fish have you seen? If it's more than 1% you're probably running in the wrong crowd.

Maybe fouz and matt voted once for each one over 10 they have and thats how we got to 54%. You big cheaters. Between the two of you, you might have a combined total close to that of the rest of the people that posted on this topic laugh.

I am guessing most guys arent blatantly lying. They are just bad at estimating their weights. I have even heard guys swear the scale was obviously broken because there was no way their 10 was only 7lbs. Ha Ha. I remeber when I caught my first one that I KNEW was finaly over 10. But then I broke out my scale and doubt krept in. I was afraid to weigh it. It ended up being 8 lbs 10 oz. I was bummed. For a minute I thought my scale was bad but deep down I knew it wasnt. Also when I hear guys claiming 10lbs and I dont believe them most are not diehard bass guys. The give away is when they say 10lbs. I think I have only caught 1 that was 10lbs even.

TTU_fisherman I dont even know how many I have caught but its not an absurd number. Probably around 30-35. I had 2 real good years a few years back and since then I get 2-3 a year.

40 years of bass fishing = 10.6 from Ivie, a 11.2 from A. H. and 14 over 10lbs caught at El Salto, Bacaburitto, Obregon & El Novillio Old Mexico. I agree with the 4% over all.
