I am good with their judgement, I think they have done great things for bass fishing in this state.

I feel that the SAL's taken should be used to restock their lakes first then other lakes after.

I think it would be a better program if there was another hatchery that was closer to the southern lakes.

I'm a lot more concerned about sales taxes on sporting goods that were planned for TPWD being diverted to the General Fund. Much more so than a program that is funded by Gulf States Toyota!

I tend to believe that the agency overseeing the best bass fishing state in the US knows what they are doing.

I have no facts, but I have to believe that the ratio of fry that live to be yearlings in the Sal program is exponentially higher than fish hatched in their home lake. No other bass, herons, otters, or imperfect conditions to get in the way. I think the people that bash the Sal program do so because they haven't caught one and they think that by turning these fish into the program it somehow reduces their chances. As far as where they should be stocked, take them wherever the tpw thinks they should be. I don't know about others, but I certainly fish more than one lake in this state.

End rant.

Maybe it warrants a look at where the SAL fry have been stocked over the years. I believe the lake that produced a SAL should be at the top of the list to get fry from the program. It currently does not happen that way. I do not think disagreeing with the way the program is ran is necessarily bashing. If people disagree with the program, they are still free to voice their opinion.

Of course they are Troy, and that's what everyone's doing. I can't argue with most of the points, and fishermen do have a chance to be heard on any issue concerning their tax dollars as it relates to TPWD. Show up at a TPWD Commission meeting in Austin and voice your concerns. Write a letter to The Commission with your questions ahead of time and be there to articulate your position. The date of each one is posted on their website long before the meeting takes place.

...and hopefully our friend James Bendele from Falcon Lake Tackle will chime in with the opposing argument. He has formed a bunch of opinions on the matter and they're based in fact. Plus, he's an very entertaining writer. Problem is, every spare hour is probably spent on the lake right now. That's where I'd be!

It is part of Operation World Record...they are putting the fry where they think a potential record can be grown. Think some of you may be surprised with what they are doing at Naconiche. HUGE potential...

I've said it before, the genes are already in Falcon to produce monster bass, just like they are at Fork and Ivie. TPWD SAL program has not depleted those gene pools at all in those lakes, I know they stocked Medina lake in San Antonio, with some fry a year or two ago, and that lake has started to come alive. Previous tournament weights were 8-10lbs to win, now it takes 20lbs! The bottom line is it is public water, and if you chose to eat, release or donate any legal fish that is your right! I love Falcon and have released many a giant fish including a 12.6. (I had my own replica made), and 5 other over ten just last year; but if i caught a 13 plus from there I would donate it without fear of depleting Falcon of its monster bass gene pool or growing season! It just make sense to me to help some of these other lakes in Texas as well!
