You can put the liver in garlic salt for a couple days to firm up the outside and thread it the same way.

Yes, you can get stuck with it but no more than a hook. I have to laugh because I hand some people a lure with hooks on it and you would think I gave them a knife point first. Like I've always said "When you're fishing in my boat, if you're not bleeding you're not having fun" lol

Normal way works some of the time but this is about as close to a sure thing as it gets.
