Im thinking something like this. You would run the wiring from the battery to near where the light would be and use alligator clips or something so you can disconnect the light to remove it when you dont need it, but to make it all water tight the wiring from the battery would have to be permanent. You would hook the wiring to the battery and to the wire running inside the PVC tube which has a standard light bulb socket, so you could use a huge assortment of different types of bulbs depending on what you wanted to do or what works best. Another thought is to protect the bulb use a tupperware container and duct tape it at the bottom to protect it, but that means you cant change the bulb so I dont know. Just a thought any ideas? I am not really planning on making it any time soon but just tossing around ideas. Also another thought was to mount a lava lamp to the bow, that would just be pimp

You're doing a bit right?
Or do you actually plan on running a 120 volt AC light bulb off of a 12 volt DC battery?
Or do you plan of throwing a gas powered generator in the hull?

No idea what you said, I aint not electrician. Thats why I was asking. Thought it would work fine but if you say one is AC and one is DC then I guess not.

Actually,,,,,,,,,,,You an buy 12 v dc light bulbs that screw into 110 sockets. Just hit a decent sized RV dealer or yacht supply. I have put them in several big boats and one house that was off the grid totally. The are usually ruggedized also for rough use. The bulb would scare me a bit though. I am some kinda clumsy.
I just bought a 12v.LED 360 clearance light for power boats from academy. It was $47 including the base and I did no engineering. It is about 40" or so tall. way above my head and behind my shoulder far enough to be out of the way.
Installed the base just as you would on a power boat and enjoy the fact that you can run it for a couple of months on a 4 ah deer feeder battery. 1 small led and very, very bright.
Fry's also sels a very decent "diffuser tip" for mini maglights for 2.99 that is about 6" tall and stores on the maglight when put on backwards. The mini maglite will slip into 3/4" pvc easily also.

Yeah, I use them in RV's. but, as far as the original question........ no.

Arn't those Walmart single solar lights around $2.49? how long do they last?
Have thought of doing that many times myself. Wonder if the warden would write a warning or ticket. ive been concerned that they take too long to come on. On a lake like LL or GV you'll want it on and brite early if you dont want to get run over or swamped.

I'm not sure that those lights meet USCG standards of 2 mile visibility. I also have a hard time believing those C Safety lights are visible up to 2 miles either. They just don't seem bright enough. I use the Tektite LED CLICK . Not the cheapest light, but extremely bright.

I agree the C light does not seem bright enough for 2 miles. Althogh that is how they are marketed and the package says it. I would feel much better if I had an LED style light on mine.

Warden has been around me in the middle of the lake with them on my pontoon 28ft.He never said anything about it and stopped the guys in front of me and checked them.I also went to hubbard for concert by the lake and was only using the led walmart light and they came right by me and didnt question it. Look at the different ones they have there are several for different prices some look to be brighter than others?

And fish zombie ,they have a light sensor like a dusk to dawn security light all you would have to do is cover the hole and they will come on.
