Fished early Sunday morn before 9am,they turned off then, meaning I caught quite a few early.Sandies and yellow bass abundant.I caught sandies when the yellow bass did not grab my grub first.I fished smallest white and yellow grubs i could find.Did well on the 1 inch power grub.,with 1/32 weighted head and 1/16 oz weight about a foot above the lure.Caught them about thirty feet off the bank.I caught three sandies over 2 lbs. each.will be back again tonite, look for fisherman with a bright yellow t shirt, good fishing.

I should have fished with you CK. Here's how my early Sunday went (8/11).
Fishing with cut bream, liver & raw shrimp.
Rip rap against the dam = 0 bites
Pier just up from the dam = 0 bites
Spillway at bottom of dam = 1 turtle 2 dinks
Grassy point at fish shelter = a few bites
Inside fishing shelter = 3 dinks
Arrived at 7:00 a.m. gave up at 2:00 p.m.
I noticed they didn't dredge up to the dam, as it was very shallow.

I'm open to suggestions.

hey Shotgun, I would not mind on giving a few hints on my recent success.First of all how big are the bait(s) you are throwing.I found that the best lures are the smallest ones.i use no more than six pound line. The secret to the early morning bite is to get in the shade ,as the water will heat up fast.I have found an ideal spot that stays shaded for at 3 hours after daylight, this has been my hotspot.Would not mind meeting at specified spot to show you how I am catching them.

Shotgun, better make it a morning run because my twin brother and I just fished Monday evening and the bite is much slower in the evening. We did manage a few sandies and a few small yellow bass.i caught a 12in crappie and my brother caught a nice largemouth weighing around 4 lbs. he caught it on a silver 2 in. sassy shad about 30 feet from the bank. Good fishing Cknowles

Hey CK,
I guess my first problem was fishing for the wrong fish. I was after catfish. Thanks for the invite. Next time you head out give me a holler and I'll see if I can get a kitchen pass.
regards,
Shotgunworld

Hey Shotgun, I haven't seen many cats caught at WRL in the past months.I mainly fish for sandies, but don't care what I catch as I never keep fish,Too much trouble for me to clean as i waste too much.I will be there at WRL early Sunday before church at my spot,Iwill try it until they quit biting.Look for me across from the dam,I drive the red Saturn wagon or Toyota SUV

Hey Guys,
Was wondering if you could catch some BIG bream from the bank at whiterock. Im talking about drag taking SLABS, not the little bait stealers.

Slab bream? (sunfish, bluegills, etc?) I have never seen slab size bream in any place I've fished. I've caught several palm size that are good eating, but slab as in Crappie size? No way! If you have, point me there!!!! Plenty of smaller bream at white rock, but I have caught slab shad there!!

Check this out man, I know all you crappie fishermen think those are the only panfish that can grow to "slab" size, but I have caught some monster bream(or perch, bluegill). The best lake for me is Lake Fork, they got some huge panfish. Heck, they got huge everything out there. http://www.kens-fishfarm.com/bream-history.asp

Ever see any of those come out of Whiterock?

Hi guys! I'm wondering if there is a launch ramp by that fish shelter? And is it OK to used a bass boat 16'4"? as long as I use a trolling motor only? Are there any trouble spots to watch out for? like shallow areas? I'd like to go bass fishing there sometime to check it out. I've never seen any boat anglers out there...just people sailing. Thanks! Maggie

Seeing the White Rock site brought back a lot of great memories for me. I rigged a boat especially for fishing WRL and had many happy days there. I have a bigger boat now and fish bigger lakes, but there's something about catching a nice bass with the skyline of Dallas in the background that gave me a special thrill. I'll never forget catching a 5.5 lb'er with my then two-year-old in the boat cheering me on.

Thanks for reminding me...
