I am wanting to get into catfishing more, and with lake Arrowhead being my home lake I was hoping you guys could give me some tips/pointers for getting into some big fish out there. I am semi familiar with the layout of the lake and I have most of the gear needed.

I saw your thread right after I had added mine. I am pretty naive when it comes to locating big cats.

Ok second bridge between late march and the end of may seem to be the most productive. This is the bridge that you can drive down to the water (left side headed to blueGrove).(headed towards blueGrove) The water to the right is only about 4-5 ft deep the right is 3-8 ft deep. Regardless of what method you use (trotline, jugs, and rod reel) Live bait is key to catching huge yellows and blues. Use 3-6 inch carp, mudcat, gold fish or perch. The big fish do bite cut bait ,but live bait seems to work better. If you set lines to check when your not around hide them, others will check your line very common.

Buddy of mine has been catching some huge blues in 8 foot of water off some rock point near Scotland side. Not real familiar with the layout but maybe that sounds familiar to you,! I'll see if I can't get more out of him! Lol

This is my fathers secret to catch the biggest and best catfish. Its a family secret so yall dont tell everybody!! The largest fish i have taken out was to the southeast of the third bridge about three blocks and near the boat ramp area. 62 pound flat head. We have always fished for cats with pure coagulated bull blood. You get a five gallon bucket of blood from the slaughter house and put it in an old refrigerator for two days. You have to take your own bucket. you take it out and skim all the froth off the top until you get down to the "cake". The congealed blood is about the consistency of jello. You use a very sharp knife and you cut it into pieces about one inch square. When you place it on the hook you have to be careful and dont snap the line or you will loose all the bait. The trot lines should be placed in water that is about nipple deep on an average man or a little shallower. You will have to wade out to run the lines so use waders or brave the cold water. You will catch more catfish than you ever thought possible. Off a fifty hook line you will probably average 10 fish. Good luck!

At the second bridge there is a very large hole about a half block around. It is just to the left of the southeast corner and about 40 yards out. It is about 10 feet deeper than the surrounding area and it is pretty good for cats.

I have swam in the water on the side you can pull your truck down to the water. so Im guessing your talking about the side of the bride you can see the stumps coming up out of the water. which is the side you can not drive your truck down to the water.
