I went to academy today, looking at Falcon rods...

I want to pic up a couple 7' rods for TX rig and Jigs (80% of my fishing tactic) and was feeling the Falcon original and HD rods in medium and Med Heavy... Why is there such a HUGE difference between these 2?

The medium is way too wiggly and the MH felt to firm...

What's you fave rod around 75-100 bucks?!

What's you jig and TRig length and action?

Thanks!

TFO rods- Compared to G.Loomis (actually designed by Gary Loomis)
99 bucks, not much of a better deal out there
http://www.tforods.com/gary-loomis-freshwater-rods.html

The medium action is pretty fast. I fish a 7 foot medium almost all the time and I love it. I've had it since they came out about a year ago. The free replacement isn't bad either!

Favorite rods are like favorite foods.

Yes, there are some that should be universally avoided.

Beyond those, it's a matter of taste and feel (edit: and budget).

My only suggestion is to look through the rods, pick the ones that feel good. Check out the workmanship and fittings like guides, grip, seats, etc. Then look at the price tag only AFTER you have narrowed down the search. You may be pleasantly surprised.

7'M Veritas or Vendetta gets my vote. I hate those rods for moving lures, but they are dang fine tip up rods.

They run mighty stiff for their listed action, which is why I'd go with the M.

I agree with Pondbass, the TFO rod would be the one for me if I had to choose a $100 rod.

But don't disregard the Falcon original 7' MH-that's all my fishing partner has used for as long as I can remember. They're not as flashy as the new split grip rods, but are a pretty dependable, well-built rod. Hasn't broken one yet, and has stuck some nice toads with them.

I am not a split grip fan... Maybe I will get used to that?! I am leaning towards the falcon original 7' MH... Maybe the length makes it seems too stiff and I will get used to that...

Academy has American Rodsmith rods on clearance now. The Titanium line is super cheap at $19.99 right now and very stiff. Their Champion series rods are marked down to $34.99 and I love these rods. I have a few now in different actions and powers. I havea Castaway SLX3 with a burner real I use exclusively for worms and jigs in heavy cover if you are going that route.

The Falcon MH is a good choice for your T-rigs & Jigs. I might would also consider CastAways "GO 2 Rod"

CastAway has a new series out, "Go 2 Rod", should be hitting most Academy's by now. It is a sub $100 rod, made on the same multi-modulus blank as some of CastAways high end rods, also has the patented double exposed(skeleton) reel seat. The main difference is the guide components. As with other CastAways they are splined and built in USA Montgomery, TX.

The GO 2 7Mag MH G27M is a excellent choice. Between my wife and I we have 12 7mag's, for the very reason you mentioned. The 7mag MH's feels like a hybrid between a MH & a Med to us. This allows the rod to be way more versatile. We use it in most our techniques, from cranks, jigs, plastics, senko's, spinnerbaits , etc.

Wish you were closer you could borrow a couple of mine for the weekend and give 'em a test run. I don't think you would be disappointed. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Never,"pick up a couple of rods" You already have enough rods. Save your money and get a GLX rod in your preferred action. Buy one quality rod at a time, use it,assess your like/dislikes before you buy a second rod.

Personally I like AllPro rods however last time I had a service member out we ran into a rep and he gave us each a Boyd Duckett rod. I haven't fished it yet but I will get to see if I like the micro guides or not. Also the new Kistlers are real nice the soldier had one of their top of the line rod that is made in the USA and I threw it a few times and was very impressed.

Being a diehard Falcon fan ,I currently have about 21 falcons, very good rods for the money, BUT...... I was at BPS this last weekend and noticed the TFO rods, very impressive, light, good stiff rods, quality looked very good, but the 2 things that stood out the most was a 99.00 price and they are color coated for the different powers(mh,hvy, med, etc)which I think is a very good idea.

I would have 21 rods also if I could afford to!!

Here's an update... I am going with the Cast Away Go 2 Series. I picked up the 6'8" MH and really like it... Priced right with the falcon original but has the blank exposed under the reel seat unlike the falcon... I also like the 6'8" vs 7' after all the lengths I have felt.

I currently have 6 rods, 3 are decent rods that came with Abu black max combo and the h2o mettle/castaway combo. The other 3 will be given to my 14 y.o. nephew as I replace them...
